TS Dolly wasn't helpful this weekend! ⛈️

Quite stormy most of the time, but we got a schooling session squeezed in.

Where we are..... Butter back to work after his summer break. Though he looks big and strong, the strength he needs to carry a rider is still developing.

Elizabeth Poulin is working on the basics of the training scale. I am sharing some of the "sausage making" as every stride is a work in process and not a finished GP horse!

He is gaining nice topline strength. I could see his back come up, swinging. He is now truly reaching for the bit and taking Elizabeth's hand. He is improving his balance and nearly the same to the right as to the left.

Most importantly he is happy. His face lights up when he hears 'good boy' and his gears are always turning trying to figure out the ask. Best boy!

What a great birthday weekend!

Elizabeth Poulin gave me this awesome USA team hat. Ambitious? Of course.

But that is the objective. A great trainer teamed with a spectacular horse. It's possible! We know it takes a lot of hard work and a great deal of luck, but it isn't crazy to aim for the top.

The top..... is not about winning the 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 year old championships. Honestly, I believe they are irrelevant to the goal. Grand Prix is the goal.

And that is dictated by Butter. How he develops is at his pace. Making sure training is fun and satisfies his playful attitude. Keeping him happy, relaxed, and joyful in the process. We know he is made for this, now we have to not ruin it:)

Elizabeth is also blessed with a special "village" around her to support Team Butter and the voice of her father in her head to encourage her. ❤️

He is filling out and looking great after his summer break. Under saddle he is looking 😲. Wow. No doubt Glamourdale is in his gene pool.

Butter has been giving Elizabeth Poulin "let's do something!" signals so she tacked him up and had an easy hack today. And he was well behaved with all that time off! 😇

He was so happy. He is filling out that frame that grew like a w**d the last few months.

Good boy Butter.

Happy 4th Birthday Butter!!!! 🎉❤️🎂

A little simple celebration this year without Cassy Hoban and I dressing him in embarrassing clothes. 😆 He is too grown up for that now. 😉

Instead he decided to sneak some wet smooches on Elizabeth Poulin Dressage, LLC 😂

He has GROWN so much since I dropped him off last December. 😳 His body is lean and burning fuel as he keeps up with all that change.

He is getting the summer off to grow. We will see how he looks in the fall and gauge when he is ready to ride again.

In the meantime he is loving life at this farm.... so much space and a playground of jumps, ditches, hills and water to keep his brain fed while they enjoy long hand walks and play.

Elizabeth Poulin Dressage, LLC has been keeping us up to date with Butter's progress. They are really building such a deep relationship! 💞

I wanted to add this photo to show how big (and beautiful) he has become. 🤩

Now that WTC are set, our plan for this summer/fall is easy body building with long walk hacks to help him grow without strain on his joints.

As our vet advised, it is good for him to develop muscle 💪 and strengthen bone 🦴 without straining his young joints. This should help him get stronger without risking getting arthritic as he ages.

Our approach is a long game. We want him to last forever and be happy and joyful in his work. We want it to be easy for him.

He is the kind of horse, though, with his athletic ability and strong urge to please, that it would be easy to take advantage of that and burn 🔥 him out. We have seen that too many times in our sport.

Not going to happen with our young man. Never. No buckling. As always, Butter decides our time line.
