I briefly made a post on my personal page but I definitely need to do more of a proper post here so here goes.

I need to take a moment to say thank you to each and everyone of my clients for all of your support and dedication to me over all of these years. It's been an honor to help care for your babies.

Through MANY long days, late nights and early mornings earlier today I was recognized as the Best Dog Walker in Concord! I'm shocked, excited, emotional but humble and eternally grateful for this recognition!!

This is good advice! Please DO NOT walk your dogs during the hottest time of the day. 1st thing in the a.m. and later in the evening is best for this coming week....I always tell people if you can't stand to walk barefoot on the pavement, then it's much to hot for your pup to do the same.. keep plenty of water available and keep them in where it's cool.

I cannot emphasize this subject enough. Our dogs trust us with every step they take. I keep this little cartoon in my purse and happily hand it out whenever I can—one small reminder can make a big difference. ❤️🐾

WALKING TIPS: Choose grassy areas and shady zones. Walk on natural grass. Walk in shade. Walk during the coolest hours of the day (usually early morning and late evening). Limit exercise on hot days. Avoid surfaces that absorb heat (mentioned above): asphalt, pavement/concrete, metal, sand, artificial grass, wood, etc.

KNOW THE SIGNS OF BURNED PAWS: limping, aversion to walking, licking and chewing paws, blisters and redness on paw pads, darkened paw pads, and parts of pads peeled off/missing.

DO YOU SUSPECT BURNED PAWS?
Rinse feet with cold water or use a cold compress.
Do not let your dog lick the injured pad(s).
See your vet as soon as possible.

MORE TIPS FOR HOT DAYS:
Keep an eye on pets basking outside on a warm or hot day (especially elderly and short muzzled dogs). They may not realize that they’re heating up like an oven.

Keep fans running for a nice breeze.

Give frozen treats like watermelon or frozen pup pops (they are fun to make so buy some freezer molds).

Don’t overlook a cool damp washcloth under armpits/groin area (these areas release heat and a little cool washcloth applied will help cool your pup down).

Other great assets that can keep your pup entertained and cooler— kiddie pools and sprinklers!

Make sure fresh water and a cool place to rest is available at ALL times.

PLEASE remember, what may seem like mild weather to you can be too warm or even dangerously hot for your pet. Pets depend on us to keep them safe, so be a good pet parent and be educated and stay vigilant! xoAmy

The weight of an overnight

People look @ overnight pet sitting and think: "you're just staying at someone's house."

And I get why it looks that way.

On paper, it is simple.

But that sentence leaves out everything that actually matters.

It starts with a bag by the door.
A temporary goodbye to your own space.
And a shift into someone else's rhythm.

You settle into homes you know well ~ homes you've been in before, where you've learned the pets, the routines, the small details that make each stay run smoothly. In many ways they feel familiar.

But familiar still isn't home.

You sleep on a bed that isn't yours.
You wake each day reorienting yourself again ~ where you are, what needs to happen, what the day requires of you.

And in the background, your awareness stays gently on.

Listening.

Not from fear ~
From responsibility.

A sound in the night.
A change in movement.
A shift in behavior that might mean something when you're the only one there.

Over time, it doesn't feel heavier because anything dramatic changes.

It feels heavier because you are away from your own center.

Because no matter how comfortable a home becomes, there's still a difference between comfort and home.

Your body knows it.
Your routines knows it.
Your rest knows it.

Still, you stay present because that is the work.

You provide continuity when everything else is in motion.

You become the steady presence pets rely on while their people are away.

And in doing so, you carry what doesn't show up anywhere on a checklist:

Energy.
Attention.
Consistency.
Emotional pressure.

None of it visible.
All of it required.

That's what overnight petsitting really is.

Not just staying somewhere else.

But holding space ~ quietly, consistently, fully ~ for someone else's family...

While your own life waits for you back at home.

And still, it's an honor to be trusted to hold this space.

Due to the extreme heat that will be upon us mid to late week, I will not be adding any additional visits to my schedule Wednesday thru Friday possibly into Saturday (all outside visits will need to be completed by noon). Dog walks will be left up to my discretion on Monday and Tuesday and most likely will not happen. I'm asking for more flexibility so I can get out of the heat ASAP all week. I'm so ready for Fall!!
