Today one of our fosters had a terrible scare with her boy, Falcon!
He was totally himself, all crazy and wild this morning. Ate his breakfast like normal and went outside for a potty break. He came back in, proceeded to act odd, puke up all his food, and retreat into a part of the house he never goes into. He then laid down and became virtually unresponsive.
The foster PM'd me right away, and I asked for a gums pic. Yep, gums light/white in color and a quick video showed he was quite non-responsive and out of it!
Fortunately, Dr. Brad was available, and Foster mom was able to jump in the car and rush him into the vet. He was feeling somewhat better by the time he arrived at the vet, but a quick check of bloodwork, showed some signs of toxicity.
We ran through the normal ideas: poisons, insecticides, etc. Then my brain ran straight to mushrooms. It's that time of year! Mushrooms pop up right now overnight due to the heavy fall rains and cool nights and warm days!
I immediately expressed my thought of mushrooms, but the foster said she hadn't seen any while picking up p**p this morning.........but after getting home with Falcon after his vet appt, she did in fact find some mushrooms in the yard!
Dogs will eat anything! So please keep your eyes peeled for those nasty fungi growing in your yard and keep your poochies safe!
Here is a common list of the most dangerous ones to watch for!
And yes, it seems that Falcon will be fine, as his body rejected it and he's on meds for a while to help get his liver going good again, and some other meds to help him feel better!
