Turkey meatball recipe
So here's the guideline for the Turkey
meatball recipe. Or you can make it into a loaf.
General Rule for any meat you use
1oz. OF EACH VEGETABLE PER # (lb.) OF PROTEIN
Example:
I use 6 # of ground turkey, only because I have 7 Golden Retrievers, recipe makes between 85/90 meatballs @1.5 oz. per. YES you have to weigh them, because you will be giving that much less of your dry dog food.
If by chance you want to feed more of the Turkey then you will have to slowly transition the process.
These are some answers to questions that you might have.
If you deside to make loaves, make them all even and the same weight, for cooking purposes and indent about a 1/2-inch crease all the way down the center from end to end.
When they cool try to slice them into 1.5 oz. pieces or just cut them into little squares and/or pre-measure before feeding.
COOKING
350d pre-heated oven.
You'll will need a large bowl, stainless if you have one for easy cleanup.
A scale, digital is preferred.
gloves
2 sheet pans w/foil
Digital thermometer
and the rest follows.
Choice of vegetables, I use 1 oz. of each of these veggies per pound of meat: celery, spinach, mushrooms, blueberries, some shredded cheese; and, 1 egg per two pounds of meat.
NO CORN
In a food processor, (if you don't have one dice all the veggies), in batches pulse 4 - 5 times, don't make mush out of this.
Combine all ingredients into the bowl and mix till all ingredients are combined, it should look evenly colorful.
If the turkey is very wet you can use some plain breadcrumbs to tighten it up.
I use two sheetpans lined with foil to keep cleanup easier.
The next step is up to you, meatballs or meat loaf.
Bake meatballs at 350d for 25 minutes and check temp it should be 160+. If in a loaf, cooks for 35 minutes. Cool on racks up high so your dogs can't get to them before you do.
Have fun,
