Birdsitting by Terri

Birdsitting by Terri I am a bird sitter. I watch exotic birds while the owners are out of town. I have over 15years of experience as a bird sitter. I certainly will watch all animals.

I was born and raised in Columbus, Ohio. I have a Bachelors and Master's degree of Science and I am a registered animal technologist. I have experience with a variety of different areas of animal care. I have done everything from basic husbandry to invasive surgeries with all types of animals. I love all animals and have a special bond with birds. Most of my clients have other animals besides bird

s. That has never been a problem. I am also able to give special care to animals if needed. (medications, injection, etc..) I have birds of my own and I know how they react to a new toy in their cage. So boarding them by taking them to a completely different environment, for a week or longer, would put some birds into a state of panic and fright. For this reason, I started a bird sitting business. This allows sensitive animals to stay at their own home. And in their own safe environment. The only stress that they will experience is a new face--me. And 16 years later, I am still loving what I do!!

I rescued a humming bird from a neighbors garage last evening. The little guy just didn't know how to get out. I placed the ladder close to where he was perched and climbed up it. Then I took a net and gently guided it to trap the little guy to the ceiling. Then I took my hand and gently grabbed his neck and body like you would handle any size bird. I held onto him so he would not struggle and hurt himself. Once I was a good distance away from the garage I released him. He flew away in great condition.

Why are certain birds more vocal than others?

This is a common question from bird owners. There is no simple answer to this question. Sometimes birds learn to become more vocal based on the behavior of their owner. Naturally birds are vocal in the mornings and evenings, this is due to their natural instinct. As birds become domesticated they learn behaviors like children. Sometimes these behaviors are bad and sometimes they are good. It is up to the owner to provide positive reinforcement to the good behaviors. This is why it is important to pay attention to your animals behavior and body language. They are communicating to you, you just have to figure out what and why?

Did you know that a bird will not show signs of illness until they are really ill?
This is why it is very important for owners to know their birds normal behavior, color of f***l matter, eating habbits and appearance. All of these are indicators that something is wrong with the bird. It could be stress or it could be health related.
It is better to be in the know that not, especially when it comes to your pet bird!
