Bedding is one of the most important factors in keeping calves healthy in cold weather!

When it’s cold, calves need to “nest” down into fluffy, dry bedding to stay warm.

In cold weather a bedding score of 3 is best. A bedding score of 3 is achieved when the calves legs are completely covered with bedding while laying down!

This picture shows a bedding score of 1, where the entire leg is visible. This is appropriate bedding for the summer, but not for cold weather months.

As a rule of thumb, calf jackets can add an additional bedding score!
