🐾 Why Does Your Dog Act Differently at Daycare Than at Home? 🐾
Did you know that your dog’s behavior can change depending on their environment? Just like people, dogs respond differently to different situations, surroundings, and social settings!
At home, your pup is in a familiar environment where they know their routine, their people, and what to expect. At daycare, there’s a whole different world of sights, smells, sounds, personalities, and excitement! 🐶
So, why might your dog act differently?
🐾 Different Environments, Different Behaviors: A dog who’s calm and cuddly at home might be full of energy at daycare! On the other hand, a pup who’s wild at home might be more reserved in a group setting. Neither is necessarily a bad thing!
🐾 Social Dynamics Matter: Dogs communicate through body language and social cues. Some are confident around other dogs, while others prefer smaller groups, familiar friends, or one-on-one attention. Even a very social dog may behave differently depending on the dogs around them!
🐾 Excitement vs. Overstimulation: Daycare introduces a lot of stimulation! While excitement is completely normal, too much activity without appropriate breaks can lead to stress, frustration, and difficulty regulating behavior. That’s why recognizing when a dog needs a little downtime is so important.
🐾 Comfort and Confidence Take Time: Some dogs jump right into daycare like they’ve been coming their whole lives, while others need time to observe, adjust, and build trust. Both are completely normal! A quieter dog isn’t necessarily unhappy, and an energetic dog isn’t necessarily comfortable. Their overall body language tells us much more.
❤️ So, what does this mean for us at The Doggie Den?
It means we don’t expect every dog to act, play, or socialize the same way!
We pay close attention to each pup’s behavior, body language, energy levels, and individual preferences. Whether that means larger group play, a couple of familiar friends, individualized enrichment, or a little extra downtime in their own suite, we do our best to create an experience that works for THEM.
And remember, the dog you see at home and the dog we see at daycare can both be the very same happy, wonderful pup! They’re simply experiencing two different environments.
Our goal isn’t to change who your dog is. It’s to understand who they are and help them feel safe, comfortable, and confident while they’re in our care. 🥰🐾
