🐔 Chicken owners, I need your help.

One of our young hens started limping and isn’t putting much weight on her right leg. She’s still eating, drinking, and acting alert, but something is definitely off.

We watched her walk, checked her over, and my husband picked her up so we could get a closer look. We don’t see any obvious injury, but we’re trying to figure out if we’re dealing with a sprain, a break, or something else.

She’s the smallest hen in the flock, and for days she watched the others head out without her.

Every morning she’d make it to the top of the ramp… then change her mind.

Today, she finally found the courage.

I missed the moment she came down, but seeing her out exploring with the rest of the flock made my day. 🐔❤️

Sometimes the smallest steps take the most courage.

For the last two days, our house has been absolutely covered up with flies.

We couldn’t figure out where they were coming from.

Then we started investigating…

What we found solved TWO mysteries:
🥚 Where our missing eggs had been going.
🤢 And where that awful smell was coming from.

Apparently one of our hens had been building quite the hidden egg stash under a bush. Some were cracked, some were rotten, and by the end I was wearing a mask just to finish the cleanup.

And then we found one final clue… an empty eggshell that looked like something else had already enjoyed breakfast.

Sometimes the most beautiful gifts aren’t the big milestones. They’re found in the ordinary—garden harvests, sunsets, shared meals, muddy boots, answered prayers, and time spent with the people we love.

Looking back on this week, I’m grateful for the simple reminders of God’s goodness woven into everyday life. 🤍🌿

🍐 This organic thing is crazy.

If you’ve ever wondered why grocery store fruit looks perfect, this is a good reminder that growing fruit without sprays isn’t always easy.

I was excited when I spotted this beautiful pear… until I looked at the rest of the tree. Most of the pears are small and covered in something I’ve never dealt with before.

Gardening has a way of keeping you humble. Some years you get the harvest you dreamed of, and some years you’re just trying to figure out what went wrong.

One of the reasons I grow cabbage every year? Homemade sauerkraut.

This batch came from one of my homegrown purple cabbages and only requires a few simple ingredients.

One purple cabbage down, several more to go! 💜🥬

This year I tried something different by planting my cabbage alongside cilantro, onions, marjoram, feverfew, and calendula. The added diversity helped keep the cabbage worms away, and for the first time, I harvested beautiful heads with very little pest damage.

Sometimes the best pest control isn’t a spray bottle—it’s creating a garden where plants work together.

Now it’s time to turn this harvest into homemade sauerkraut! Have you tried companion planting in your garden?
