How did your cell phone help you today? Did your calendar remind you of an important event? Did your calm app remind you to breathe?

Mine made an almost three minute video of "similar shots" that is a compilation of me trying to take s***m videos with a side of demodex and ear mites. 🀣

Yesterday I was petting a pup and scratching him right above the base of the tail.

This dog was obviously enjoying that scratch spot, stomping his rear and wagging his tail with pure joy. "Oh he loves butt scratches" says the owner.

To which I reply....
"Don't we all"

The room turned silent and I hoped the owner didn't hear me, although I know she did...

Happy Saturday friends.

Just here to show you that vets are real people and sometimes say dumb things.

Welll, word travels fast in the dog community.

Unfortunately it wasn't a good fit for me at the clinic I moved to Sacramento for. My family and I love the area and I'm not moving my zoo again anytime soon πŸ™ƒ

Life is keeping me on my toes, but I'm taking my time determining my next official steps. For now I will be providing relief services until at least the end of summer or longer.

It's hard to say what my 5, 10, or 15 year plan is at this time. There have been so so many unexpected changes the last year and I'm not generally a person who likes change. I do recognize that change is needed for growth and improvement.

For now all I know is that I am going to focus on studying for boards (July 2027) and trying to find a new home clinic, or an alternative where I can continue to help support breeders and fellow vets who feel lost in the therio world.

Maybe along the way I can offer a different perspective, if there is interest, to the clinics I do relief at.

Stay tuned, because I have no clue where this will lead me, but I am still excited about the future

We are very excited to announce that Dr. Brittany Shumack will be joining our team on January 26th!

Dr. Brittany Shumack grew up in Alabama and earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine. During her time at Auburn, she served as president of the Student Theriogenology Club and was recognized with the Proficiency in Theriogenology Award during her clinical year.

After graduation, Dr. Shumack began her career in Colorado, providing both reproductive and general practice veterinary services. She quickly became a trusted partner to many canine and feline breeders in the region, known for her compassion, dedication, and commitment to building lasting client relationships. Her outstanding work earned her recognition as a finalist for the 2024 Westminster Kennel Club Veterinarian of the Yearβ€”an honor based on nominations from her clients and colleagues.

Dr. Shumack remains actively involved with the Society for Theriogenology and is currently completing a mentorship residency toward Diplomate status with the American College of Theriogenologists. She is deeply passionate about the connection between reproductive health, overall wellness, and genetic preservation, as well as about advancing education and client communication in her field.

At Kokopelli Veterinary Center, Dr. Shumack looks forward to continuing her professional growth, supporting breeders throughout the region, and rekindling her work in equine reproduction.

Outside of the clinic, Dr. Shumack enjoys spending time outdoors with her husband and two children or attending dog shows with her beloved English Setters.

A little full circle moment this morning. The dam of these puppies is here today thanks to breeding her dam. I performed the C-section that brought the dam into the world and now the frozen semen breeding and C-section to bring these puppies into the world.
