Second Chance Pet Rescue

Second Chance Pet Rescue SCPR is located in Coeur d’Alene Idaho and rescues adoptable animals to help them find forever homes. There are many reasons why people adopt pets from us.

SCPR rescues adoptable animals to help them find forever homes. Many of our animals are rescued from local "kill" shelters where they may be just hours away from death. Some are purebred and some are mixes, but all these animals have plenty of love to give, if you will open your heart and your home. Sometimes we have just the pet they have been looking for and cannot find in their area. Sometimes

they like the information that we can provide about the pets we care for. Sometimes they like the fact that our pets have been cared for in a loving, healthy home environment and are eager to return that love. Sometimes they like the fact that we take the animal back if there is ever a problem. We make a lifetime commitment to our animals. They know that if they adopt from us and it does not work out, they do not have to face terrible alternatives. Also they like to know that the pet has had every medical need cared for before s/he is adopted. Others believe in our philosophy and want to help our animals. Whatever the reason we are very grateful to all of the people who have given such wonderful lives to our animals. We have a lifeline of vets, professional trainers and a groomer who are ready to help at any time. We want all adoptions to be a great experience for both you and the pet. When pets come to us they enter a safe haven where they are loved and cared for until their forever home is found. They become our priority. We give them a name if they don't have one, take them home and start loving them as they learn to trust again. Many of them require extra care. All of our pets have been affected in some way by their circumstances. Adopting a rescue pet means taking a possibly neglected, abused and definitely needy pet and making a sincere COMMITMENT to properly care for and love him or her UNCONDITIONALLY for the rest of their life. We are committed to finding the right home for our animals, and have developed our adoption policies based on our years of experience with rescuing and adopting out dogs and cats. Not everyone who applies to adopt will be approved. We do the best we can to match prospective adopters with the right animal. We get to know our animals well and are very successful with training and re-training for behavioral modification. When you get a pet from us, there are no surprises. We pride ourselves on being completely honest with prospective owners, so as not to unduly stress the pet by having it returned 2 or 3 weeks later. All of our animals are returnable for the life of the pet, although we have a very low return rate, because we take the time to match pets with people for the best possible life for both of you. We have medical care done by our very competent vets before adopting pets out. Our pets are adopted with full disclosure of known health conditions. Usually we pay more in vet bills for these pets than we recover in their adoption fees. The difference comes out of our pocket, another reason why we are very selective about the homes our pets go to. Any pet you get from us over the age of 4 months will be sterilized and current on all vaccinations. We also require that any currently owned pets be sterilized. Adoption Requirements
To be considered for adoption, you must:
• For renters, have a paid pet deposit, written landlord permission, and a one-year minimum lease.
• Have a fenced yard, or sizeable acreage with a containment system, such as field fencing or an invisible fence system, if adopting a dog.
• Be willing to have a home/yard inspection before adoption.
• Sign a legally binding adoption form/care contract at the time of adoption. Surrendering a Pet
There are many reasons people find themselves in a situation where they can no longer care for their pet. While we always try to help in these situations, sometimes we simply don't have the room to take the animal in. If you feel you are going to be in a position where you need to re-home your pet, timely action is the key. While we might not have room to take your pet into one of our foster homes, we can list your altered, fully vaccinated pet on our website and screen potential adopters for you while you wait for a space to open up. We cannot guarantee a space, as we are a group of private foster homes and do not own/operate a shelter facility of any kind. We will try to help you. Foster a Pet
We are always in need of foster families, so that we can save more animals. Rescued animals need temporary shelter, care and love while waiting for their forever families. Some need a few nights' stay until they get adopted, others need a home until they reach an adoptable age or recover from trauma. You supply a loving home and a second chance at life, and we take care of all medical care, adoptive family screening, advice and support.

Betty Boop is a 2 yr old spayed female 16 # Peek-a-Pom. She is a sweetheart who hasn't had a fair shake in life yet. She came to us from a hoarder situation and hadn't been treated well. She needs someone to nurture her and teach her about all the good things life in a proper home has to offer. She has been spayed, is working on housebreaking and crate training and is exceptional with other dogs. She will put the chase on a cat though! She may be small but she's mighty! She can be a little shy meeting new people but that only lasts a few minutes. She's playful and could do well in a home with kind, considerate, well supervised children. Do you have a spot in your heart and home for this little diamond in the rough?

Frankie is a 4 month old neutered male wire hair blend. I am stumped as to what his mix may be. I can say he's going to be a large dog as an adult, probably 60 #+. He may be an Idaho S**g. I do see possibly Airedale? Whatever he is he's CUUUUTE! 🥰 He's a good boy too. He was surrendered to a small over crowed shelter in Southern Utah (where we rescued him from) by owners who were not prepared for his puppy energy and sharp teeth. He is a very sweet pup who plays very well with other dogs. He can become over stimulated, which really tells me "herding breeds", and be nippy in play. He needs a owner who will take the time to train him properly and help him become the best canine citizen he can be. He knows no commands and is learning to be housebroken and crate trained now. He's super smart, so young and has his whole life ahead of him!

Sammy is a 2 yr old 20 # neutered male Terrier blend. He has a minimally shedding wire coat and the prettiest eyes that match his coat color! He is an owner surrender. He was rescued by some good people who's bad neighbor brought Sammy home as a puppy and let him live outside with an old kitchen cabinet missing its doors with a piece of cloth tacked to it for a "house". They also had no fence so Sammy went where he wanted and got into people's trash, chased cats and was nearly hit by cars several times. To say he became a little self sufficient street thug is an understatement! These good people took him in about a year ago ,had him neutered, vaccinated and began training and socializing him. They do a fantastic job. But they also don't have a fence either and found it increasingly difficult to manage keeping Sammy home. While they really loved the little fella, they weren't in a position to fence their yard and had began a massive renovation on their lakeside home. They made the hard decision to ask us to rehome Sammy safely.
He is the sweetest! Playful, well socialized and yet still a little feisty. He would do best in a mature home, possibly with an easy going dog playful and older children, if any at all. He comes with his own crate, bed, bowls, toys and a few months supply of high quality dog food.

**Pup-date!**

Hi Angie,

Tomorrow is Hannah's one year anniversary with me. Thought I'd give you a little update. She is doing very well. It was quite a project to get all of her medical stuff squared around, but we've managed that. The custom CCL brace from Specialized Pet Solutions was a total game changer. We've had no re-injury of that leg since October. She still hasn't barked, but she vocalizes when she's excited and she does the cutest little dances when we get ready to go on walks or car rides. Hannah absolutely lives to go on her daily walks. She loves car rides! She loves food. I had to put her on a diet. 😂🐾. My cats love her. She's not quite as enamored with them. She tolerates them to some degree. I've enclosed a video of what Stubby does to her. She is just a sweet soul, and I anticipate she'll just get happier and happier. Everything was new to her coming here. She's done remarkably well. I just get so much enjoyment out of making her happy. I love her to pieces. Thanks for everything you do.

P***y Brewster is a adorable 6-8 month old Jack Russell/Chihuahua possibly Dachshund mix spayed female pup. She weighs 8.8 and has a very minimally shedding wire coat. This should be good for people with mild allergies. She is very friendly with other dogs but chases cats. She is super attached and friendly once she knows you but can be shy and hesitant at first. Very "Chihuahua" ! She has the cutest little bounce to her walk, like a rocking horse! She loves to play fetch and ride in the car. She will need a little more work on her house breaking, but she is after all, just a babe! She should be fine in a home with gentle kids 8 and up.
