The longer I’ve been in this business, the more true this becomes. Horses, people, students, friends—it all comes back to showing up for others and helping them succeed. When you invest in someone else’s goals, you usually find your own along the way.

“You can get everything in life you want if you will just help enough other people get what they want.” — Zig Ziglar

A good reminder for the arena and for life.

One of the biggest mistakes riders make in horsemanship is thinking the answer is trying harder.

More pressure.
More effort.
More determination.

But horses don’t respond to just effort.

They respond to clarity.

If your horse is confused, trying harder usually just makes the conversation louder… not clearer.

And pretty soon both of you start getting frustrated.

The rider feels like they’re failing.
The horse feels like they’re under unnecessary pressure.

But something interesting happens when a rider slows down and starts focusing on communication instead of control.

The horse starts to relax.

The rider starts to see things they were missing before.

And suddenly the same horse that felt difficult yesterday…
starts to make sense today.

Horsemanship isn’t about overpowering the problem.

It’s about understanding it.

Because once the horse understands the conversation…

You don’t have to fight for progress anymore.

You start to build it.

One clear moment at a time.

Hey everyone! I'm coming home to Cody Wyoming in May, and I'm getting ahead of my scheduling and planning for the summer. I'm so incredibly excited to get back for the Cody Nite Rodeo and riding with everyone!

I've had a really awesome time in Texas and Wickenburg, AZ, over the winter. Hera and I have spent tons of time roping, and Heidi is now officially a started rope horse prospect! I can't tell y'all how proud I am of these two mares and how far they've both come. I'll share some progress videos from Heidi next week!

Mckenna Coston and I are also working on setting up some other breakaway-related events over the summer, and we will keep y'all updated as they develop! Thinking jackpots and mini clinics!

No he doesn’t need more ground work….

His feet, teeth & sheath is up to date…

The saddle fits & the bit works great….

He doesn’t need a vet, chiropractor or horse shrink…

…..and NO this this is not a “buck” its a crow hop😝

He is just being a c**t having an excitement moment wanting to play and show off his moves….and yes it got redirected to a little bit more work.

Young horses are often unpredictable and prone to making mistakes as they grow and mature. This behavior is part of their natural development, driven by hormones and instincts, and requires patient, consistent, firm boundaries and confident handling to manage. Like any young animal, c**ts have a short attention span and lack experience, which means they can spook easily or test boundaries hence why its so important to pick a Good c**t starter who can analyze the behavior and work them through it.

In order to ride young horses you have to be a confident leader. You must be assertive but not aggressive, as c**ts can sense fear. You need to be able to ride with purpose, keep them focused and moving forward. Teach & enforce boundaries & be consistent and correct undesirable behaviors. Do not allow them to get away with bad habits, no matter how small.

C**t starting can be so much fun but it is not for everyone because not many people want to work through the growing pains of a young horse figuring things out in this world however it can be so rewarding when done right.

Enjoy the crisp fall mornings friends &
dont squeeze your butt cheeks to tight….
