Show season is in full swing and hard work is already paying off! I am so proud of these girls and their dedication to becoming better riders and showmen. Thank you Grand Junction Horse Show Association for a great Mother's Day Show this weekend.

Gillie and Mr Oreo did their first ranch show and finished High Point Novice Rider! They then returned on Sunday to earn the Reserve High Point Novice Rider in the performance division! πŸŽŠπŸŽ‰πŸ…πŸ…

Our riding focus will be Ranch with guest clinician Jessica Ferro.

About Ferro Equine Services:
With over 20 years of experience training and in the show pen across multiple disciplines I am here to help you and your horse succeed in any direction.

Beginning as an all-around youth rider I eventually gravitated towards two distinct and seemingly opposite disciplines, dressage and versatility ranch horse. While studying equine science at LCCC, I competed on the school’s ranch horse team, which sparked my love for a good working ranch horse. With a background in dressage fundamentals, I now seek to combine the strengths of both disciplines to sculpt a truly rounded and versatile horse.

I believe that classical dressage, with hundreds of years of refinement, has much to offer the modern day western horse and rider. The horse benefits from gymnastic and strengthening exercises while the rider learns to efficiently use their body to better assist the horse. By properly conditioning our western horses we can set them up for faster spins, tighter rollbacks, and harder stops all while maintaining healthy joints, allowing us to enjoy our equine partners for years to come.

While it's not exactly new news, it's pretty exciting to finally have the physical proof of Sails accomplishments. We shifted gears the last year to work on some USDF stuff but 2026 is about chasing level 3!

A trip down memory lane tonight. Back before AQHA versatility ranch horse was a thing, Mesa County 4H had the Handy Ranch class. I was riding Sailer's dam Ellie at the time. These would have been taken in 2008 or 2009. The rider had to complete a pattern with obstacles, all while a herd of cattle sat at the end of the arena. The rider would then enter the herd, cut a numbered cow out, and drive it down and pen it. All this was done alone with no herd help!
