🌿 Is your pet constantly licking their paws?
That “itchy paw” habit isn’t just annoying—it’s often a sign of underlying allergies or irritation. Environmental allergens like grass, pollen, dust, and even lawn chemicals can build up on your pet’s feet every time they go outside, triggering inflammation and discomfort.

✨ One simple, natural tool? Paw soaks.

At Riverbend Integrative Animal Care, we know allergies aren’t just a surface issue. True healing comes from a whole-body approach, which may include:

✔️ Identifying root causes (environmental + food sensitivities)
✔️ Supporting the immune system naturally
✔️ Integrative therapies like acupuncture & nutrition
✔️ Gentle, non-toxic topical care (like paw soaks!)

🐾 If your pet is licking, chewing, or struggling with itchy skin, don’t ignore it—this is their way of telling us something isn’t right.

💚 Let’s get to the root of it and help them feel comfortable again.

If your dog is constantly licking or chewing their paws, it’s not just a quirky habit, it’s a signal. In many cases, it’s your dog’s way of telling you their immune system is reacting to something in their environment. Grass, pollen, lawn chemicals, and everyday irritants can build up on their paws with every step outside. The good news is that something as simple as a daily paw soak can dramatically reduce that exposure and bring real relief, often without the need for medications.
My blog walks you through a gentle, effective at-home routine that helps remove allergens, calm inflammation, and support healing from the outside in. It also covers when to look deeper, including yeast overgrowth, food sensitivities, or parasites, so you can address the root cause, not just the symptoms.

March is Pet Poison Prevention Month, and it’s the perfect time to remind pet owners that many everyday items in our homes can be dangerous for our furry family members.

At Animal Emergency & Specialty Center of Chattanooga, we frequently treat pets who have accidentally ingested toxic foods, medications, or household products. Some common pet toxins include:

🐾 Chocolate
🐾 Xylitol (found in sugar-free gum and candy)
🐾 Grapes & raisins
🐾 Human medications
🐾 Certain plants and household cleaners

If you ever suspect your pet has ingested something toxic, don’t wait, contact a veterinarian immediately. Quick action can make all the difference in keeping your pet safe.

If you’re unsure whether something is toxic, you can also contact the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center or The Pet Poison Hotline for guidance.

Let’s work together to keep our pets safe this month and all year long. 💚🐾

As an integrative veterinary practice we prioritize natural remedies, treating the root cause and a complete approach to medicine which is why we use Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine (TCVM).

Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine is a holistic healing system that has evolved over the past 3,000 years and treatments are generally non-invasive with few side effects. TCVM focuses on balancing the body’s energy and addresses the root cause. In TCVM, disease is seen as an imbalance in the body, diagnosed by identifying underlying patterns of disharmony.
Dr. Hudson uses this practice to emphasize a holistic or “whole patient” approach that views the body as a system of interconnected forces and functions.

There are four branches of TCVM:
☯Acupuncture
☯Herbal Medicine
☯Food Therapy
☯Tui-na (medical massage)

The branches of TCVM can be used together, with other holistic modalities and modern medicine to restore harmony for better health, longevity, and to address chronic issues with non-invasive, natural treatments.

Ever heard of Veterinary Medical Manipulation (VMM)?

It's like chiropractic care — but for your pets! One of Dr. Hudson’s favorite holistic modalities is Veterinary Medical Manipulation. She completed training in VMM from Chi University in 2023 and received her certification in Veterinary Medical Manipulation (CVMMP). Dr. Hudson has loved watching her patients benefit from their VMM adjustments.

Why use Veterinary Medical Manipulation?

The goal of VMM is to achieve and maintain optimal movement of all joints. Supporting the health and integrity of the spine through VMM is an excellent way to affect and improve the performance of the nervous system, as well as overall health and mobility. VMM helps by relieving pain, getting pets back to full activity, preventing future wear & tear, supporting faster healing, etc.

What conditions could benefit from Veterinary Medical Manipulation?
⭐️Unidentified lameness issue with no known structural cause
⭐️Decreased performance in sporting or working dogs
⭐️Chronic musculoskeletal problems such as hip dysplasia, arthritis, luxating patellas
⭐️Geriatric patients
⭐️Lick granulomas
⭐️Recurring digestive problems or incontinence
⭐️Abnormal posture or stance
⭐️Pain when doing certain movements or when being picked up
⭐️Stiffness and/or decreased mobility
⭐️Preventive care to keep your pet healthy!
