Good morning from Nougat! We will be CLOSED to the public today in honor of Labor DAy. As always, we are grateful to the volunteers and staff who will still be in to help care for the dogs!

Cleveland Animal Care & Control officers will still be on the road today and you can call 216-664-3069 for lost/found dogs or other animal control needs (if you get the voicemail, please leave a message as these are checked regularly). If your dog DOES go missing, please check the kennel as soon as possible, in addition to posting in local social media groups and using physical fliers. We went into this long weekend already full and we already currently have many found dogs waiting to get back home! Meet Squirrel! She's fun, she's cute, and when we say she's just a little bit nutty - we mean it in the best way!

Squirrel is a delightfully silly puppy. At just around 9 or 10 months old, she is still a youngster looking for a family to grow with. While she started off a little shy and unsure of herself, she has really gone from wallflower to party pup.

Squirrel is all about play! She makes an eager fetch buddy, and loves to romp around and find new ways to have fun. She is even happier when you join in the games with her. In warm weather, she's even down to hop in the pool for a splash. In play group, she has been playful and silly with other dogs and she might enjoy a canine playmate in her future home.

Spend time with Squirrel and you can expect giddy zoomies, big smiles and puppy energy. She still has a sensitive side and can be a little shy about new weird things, but she is quick to find her inner brave girl. She's a sweetheart who likes to check in for pets and attention too.

Low-riding nugget alert! If your dog aesthetic is "bowling ball with legs" then Baxter absolutely fits the bill. The stubby, beefy fella is a happy-go-lucky dude who is ready to trundle on into a home.

Though Baxter is built like a linebacker, he's not really the athletic type. He moves at a waddle and his favorite activities include getting scritches and belly rubs. He lights up for attention and seems content to spend all day getting doted on. His stamina is pretty low, especially when it's hot out, so he'd likely fit into a home that is looking for a couch potato rather than exercise buddy. (Though, he would benefit from a gentle step program to help maintain a healthy weight for his joints.)

Baxter seems like he is housebroken, knows how to sit, and has been easy-going for volunteers. On walks he does tend to mosey around, though can be strong when he gets a notion about something. With other dogs in play group, he was social and did his own thing. Basically, he's a chill chonk of a pup ready to be your low-key shortstack of a bro.

Hancock is looking fresh with a new collar as he heads into the long weekend! Now he just needs a home - because right now he's all dressed up with nowhere to go.

Hancock is a happy nugget of a pup ready to spread some good vibes in a home. When he first arrived at the kennel, you could tell he was a little reserved and probably confused about how he ended up there. But he's really come out of his shell into a curious, silly goober of a young pup.

Hancock sure loves his toys! When he is out for an activity with volunteers, his favorite thing to do is head to the play yards where he can romp around with stuffies, squeaky toys and balls galore. On walks, he likes to explore but is a stout fellow who doesn't seem particularly built for endurance. When he's had enough of that, he likes to wriggle around on the ground and soak up some belly rubs or butt scratches from a friend. He's quite wiggly and excited meeting new friends. With other dogs in play group he's been playfully social, and he has done well with other dogs in passing or through the fence.

Hancock is a smart pup who will thrive with some consistency outside the kennel. On an extended sleepover he had no accidents and did well in the crate. He was a bit hesitant about the car, but fine once he got a lift in. Hancock has moments of puppyish excitability still and can be jumpy, but with more time to decompress we expect him to settle more and more. He'd love to find a fun-loving home to help him shine.

Meet Nacho, a sweet and playful young pup with the cheesiest smile!

Nacho recently went into a foster home and is already showing what a good dog he is! His favorite thing is playing with toys. He loves it when you join in the fun and hopes his future home has a full toy chest.

Nacho may be silly, but he is already pretty well-rounded for a youngster and has some smarts already. He’s potty trained and good in the crate. Nacho has also been polite when seeing the cats in his foster home as well. He has also been playful with other dogs so far in play group.

Ahoy there, it's Captain! At a little over 2 years old and around 55 pounds, Captain is ready to chart a course straight into your heart. This happy-go-lucky guy is searching for his forever crew and can't wait to drop anchor in a loving home.

In his foster home, Captain has proven himself to be an excellent addition. He is completely housebroken, doesn't jump or chew, and does wonderfully in his crate both overnight and when left home alone. He is also an A+ cuddle buddy, whether you're relaxing on the couch or settling in for the night.

Overall, Captain is a low-energy, low-maintenance dog who is easy to have around and happy to simply be by your side. He would be an especially wonderful companion for someone who works from home and is looking for a calm, loving canine coworker. Captain is the kind of dog who will happily keep you company throughout the day and then curl up beside you when it's time to relax. He would prefer a lower-key environment where he can settle into a routine. He makes a great homebody.

Meet our Isla Bonita! Her warm, vivacious personality feels a bit like spending time in a tropical island breeze. Isla is full of puppy love that she's ready to share with you!

Isla's favorite things are snuggles, toys, treats and walks. She is a great balance of playful and affection as well as active and attentive. At around two years old, she's still puppyish and fun while remaining eager to show off her smarts.

This cute, peppy ginger snap has been living in a foster home where she has been getting spoiled and showing what a good girl she is. Now she's ready to find a family of her own! Isla is housebroken and crate-trained. She loves playing with her doggy foster brother in the yard as well.

Meet lovely lady Lainey! Lainey is a total lover dog, most content to be perched on someone's lap or soaking pet affection. She is smart and well-mannered, and she's an all-around joy to be around!

Lainey has a little fan club around here and it's no mystery why. She's low-key, charming and nicely engaging with people. She is fun to walk and delightfully cuddly when you want to take a break. She's down for a little activity here and there but mostly seems to want to hang out and be with you.

We guess Lainey had a home before with some basic training. She seems housetrained as she consistently does her business outside. She also knows sit and paw and is gentle with her treats. On walks, she is easy to have on leash, as long as you don't mind frequent breaks for wiggles and rolls in the grass. With other dogs in play group, she has been social with a soft/gentler play style.

Bay wants to be your Bae! This handsome brindle boy is smart, fun and engaging. He makes an eager sidekick for all kinds of activities.

Despite being one of the longest residents, Bay greets every day with a bright smile and positive attitude. He can be a bit independent, which makes him an expert self-entertainer, but once he warms up, he is more than happy to welcome you into his fun world. He really enjoys romping around in the play yards with all the toys and is always eager to show off his smarts - he's mastered sit and paw and is working with volunteers on down, spin, and keeping all 4 on the floor. Bay consistently keeps a clean kennel so we believe he is housebroken. It certainly seems like someone spent some time training Bay, and we bet he is missing being in a home. He is food-motivated, though remembers to take his treats gently.

Bay can be an active pup but has an easy-going disposition in that he's up for all sorts of activities if he can be at your side. He has nice leash manners and recently spent some time out-and-about with volunteers showing that he is an excellent co-pilot, enjoys being a patio guest for coffee, and is a great shopping companion when looking for toys and treats. Bay is game for whatever you have in mind. He has been playful meeting other dogs in play group and seems playfully excited to see other dogs in passing. After he has some time to stretch his legs, he enjoys relaxing and simply spending time with a companion.
