You know how we love those partnerships, and three of our members have come together to launch Polk County's very first Pet Food Pantry - Soul Healing Canine, Safe Haven Animal Rescue Program (SHARP), and Steelwheel corner!!

Located at Steelwheel Corner, this new community resource was made possible through the vision of Soul Healing Canine and the support of SHARP, whose donation helped fund the pantry boxes. Together, these organizations are providing supplemental pet food and supplies to help local families through unexpected hardships.

Their message is simple: Take what you need. Leave what you can.

The pantry also accepts donations of pet food, treats, toys, collars, leashes, clothing, and other pet supplies. Organizers hope to expand the program with additional pantry locations throughout Polk County in the future.

This is a wonderful example of local businesses and nonprofits partnering to meet a community need. Thank you for making a difference . . . one paw at a time!

Today, we joined Ocoee River Barn’s Fall Event! 🍂🐾

We had the opportunity to share our training services, showcase our Pet Food Pantry, and introduce some exciting new products designed to help dogs feel and look their best!

We met so many wonderful people and had some truly great conversations. Our Dog Collar Bar was a HUGE hit, and we’re already excited to make it even bigger and better!

We can’t thank y’all enough for showing up and supporting us today. You truly made my heart so happy! 🧡

Well… I guess it’s time for a little transparency post. 🙃

I received this message from a prospective client today, and while I hate that someone tried to make her question something she was genuinely excited about, I’m actually glad she asked me directly.

So let’s clear it up.

Do I use prong collars and e-collars?

Yes. I do.

I’m a balanced dog trainer, and I’ve never hidden that.

But what I don’t do is slap a tool on every dog that walks through my door. I don’t believe every dog needs the same equipment, the same training plan, or even the same approach.

I meet the dog and the human holding the leash where they are.

Sometimes that means food.
Sometimes that means play.
Sometimes that means a slip lead.
Sometimes that means a long line.
Sometimes that means a prong collar or e-collar.
And a whole lot of the time, it means teaching the HUMAN how their timing, expectations, emotions, communication, and relationship are affecting the dog in front of them.

Because tools don’t train dogs.

People do.

And no tool should ever replace communication, relationship, education, proper conditioning, or understanding the dog at the other end of the leash.

I also fully respect that my training philosophy will not align with everyone’s beliefs.

That’s okay.

There are trainers whose methods I personally wouldn’t choose for my own dogs, either. That doesn’t mean I need to stand in a pet store and convince their prospective clients not to work with them.

There is plenty of room in this industry for different philosophies.

What I will always encourage is this:

Ask the trainer.

Ask me what I use.
Ask me WHY I use it.
Ask me to show you how I introduce it.
Ask what other options exist.
Ask me what I would recommend for your dog and why.

You deserve to make an educated decision based on a conversation with the professional you’re considering, not someone else’s interpretation of their methods.

I have never claimed to be an all-positive trainer.

I’ve never claimed to be the trainer for everybody.

Actually, I’m pretty loud about the fact that I’m not. 😂

What I am is incredibly passionate about educating the human, advocating for the dog in front of me, building confidence on both ends of the leash, and helping families create relationships that can actually function in real life.

So if someone tells you something about Soul Healing Canine that makes you pause…

Here’s your reminder to meet your dog where they are, not where you expect them to be. 🧡

Yesterday, there was a common theme throughout so many of my lessons: expectations.

We bring home a puppy who has been on this earth for less than a year, and sometimes we expect them to understand how to live in our world like a dog who has been beside us for 10+ years.

Especially when that puppy comes after an older dog.

We remember the 10-year-old dog who knew the routine. Who settled in the house. Who walked nicely. Who understood our weird little habits. Who just got us.

But we forget that dog wasn’t always that dog.

There was a puppy before them who made mistakes.
Who didn’t know how to regulate themselves.
Who needed repetition.
Who tested our patience.
Who had to learn what we expected of them.

That relationship took YEARS to build.

So when your 6-month-old puppy is struggling with something that your old dog “never did,” give them a little grace.

And while you’re at it, give yourself some too.

Your puppy isn’t behind.
They’re not failing.
And you don’t need to rush through the story just because you already know what you want the ending to look like.

They’re still writing Chapter One.
Stop expecting them to behave like they’re already on Chapter Ten. 🧡

Slow down. Teach them. Guide them. Build the relationship.

The dog you miss, remember, or compare them to wasn’t created overnight either.
