A topic of many discussions, usually complaints of dog walkers not picking up after their dogs. We would like to add to the discussion.

When you leave your pet's waste behind, it should not be the dog version of "so-and-so was here"... especially when you are the one to find it - on the bottom of your shoe. Leaving your dog's p**p wreaks havoc by being a biohazard, damaging lawns, and harming the environment. Dog waste can carry roundworms, hookworms, and whipworms that live in the soil and infect other pets or people. It can also spread illnesses like E. coli, Salmonella, and canine parvovirus which is deadly if left untreated. If your dog is perfectly healthy, consider that fact when walking your dog and you spot a pile... If your dog is ill or untreated for parasites and illnesses, picking up after your dog not only protects other dogs and animals, but it will help prevent your dog from reinfecting themself from the same pile of contaminated waste.

In regard to the environment, this is where people seem to disagree or not understand that dog waste is a harmful contaminant. This is mainly due to the thought of "if wild animals do their business wherever they want and no one picks that up, why can't my dog?" - Most dogs have commercial kibble diets. These diets are rich and loaded with external nutrients that are not part of the local natural nutrient cycle, and is an unnatural pollutant. Also, factor in that domestic dogs are concentrated in neighborhoods and other populated areas, overwhelming natural decomposition. Wild animal populations are more thin and spread out.

Moral of the story: PLEASE PICK UP AFTER YOUR DOG.
