🚨 LONG POST WARNING – But Worth the Read 🚨
Because if we’re going to talk about breeders and rescues, let’s really talk about it. No sound bites. No keyboard wars. Just the full story, from someone who lives it.
Every time a breeder offers to help a rescue—whether it’s donations, transport, outreach, or just offering a kind word—we’re hit with the same line:
“If you really cared about dogs, you’d stop breeding and foster instead.”
Let’s be clear:
We’re not here to argue.
We’re not here to seek validation.
We’re here because we actually give a damn—and we want to be part of the solution.
At Border Paws Mini Mixes, we breed Mini Aussies with intention. We don’t pump out litters. We don’t cut corners. We don’t place puppies with just anyone. Every step of what we do is planned, researched, and filled with care—from the pairings we choose to the vet care, socialization, and support we provide for life.
We’re not the problem.
In fact, responsible breeders are part of the solution.
But here's the hard truth: there’s a divide between many in the rescue world and the breeding world—and it's time we tear that wall down.
🐾 Why Breeders and Rescues Need Each Other
We need both. And here’s why:
🔹 Rescues are saving lives—dogs that were dumped, neglected, abused, or surrendered for heartbreaking reasons. That work matters. That work deserves respect.
🔹 Breeders are preventing suffering before it starts—by producing healthy, stable puppies and placing them with educated, committed families who are screened and supported.
And the reality is, most rescues are not set up to raise young puppies from birth. They don’t have the space, the training, or the bandwidth to properly raise neonates or whelping moms.
Breeders specialize in early development.
We know the breed. We know the genetics. We know the drive, the quirks, the energy, and the needs. We set dogs up for success before they leave our arms.
When done right, breeding doesn’t compete with rescue—it compliments it.
🤝 What Could Happen If We Worked Together?
Let’s dream a little:
✅ Rescues could lean on breeders for education—about temperament, behavior, early development, and breed needs.
✅ Breeders could offer foster support during crises—using our homes, supplies, and knowledge to step in when rescues are overwhelmed.
✅ We could team up to fight backyard breeders and puppy mills instead of fighting each other. Because that’s the real problem. Not the breeder who DNA tests, OFAs, socializes, and vet-checks everything before even considering a litter.
✅ We could share networks and tools to make sure every dog—rescue or bred—lands in a forever home, not just a temporary one.
✅ We could co-host events, fundraisers, transport drives, and community education days. Imagine the impact we could have together.
Instead, we waste energy tearing each other down while the dogs in real need continue to suffer. Why? Ego? Assumptions? Old wounds?
We’re not here to say one side is better.
We’re saying both sides are better together.
💬 And Let’s Be Honest…
It’s easy to throw stones at breeders when you’ve only seen the worst of them.
Yes, there are trash breeders. Just like there are rescues who hoard, overextend, or fail their dogs.
But lumping every breeder into the “problem” category just because we raise puppies is lazy, misinformed, and honestly, damaging to progress.
We raise dogs the right way—healthy, happy, stable, and set up for success.
We also want to see shelters empty, rescues supported, and bad breeding practices wiped out.
Those are the same goals.
So why act like we’re enemies?
🧡 Our Promise
At Border Paws Mini Mixes:
We will continue to breed with purpose, not profit.
We will continue to support our puppy families for life.
We will continue to educate, advocate, and raise the bar.
And yes—we will continue to offer support to rescues who are willing to work with us, not against us.
We’re not here to make noise.
We’re here to make an impact.
And if that makes some people uncomfortable… that’s okay.
Change usually does.
📣 Final Thoughts:
Don’t let stereotypes keep us from saving more dogs.
Don’t let assumptions stop good people from doing good work.
And don’t forget—we’re all here for the same reason:
We love dogs.
If you’re a rescue willing to build that bridge, our door is always open.
We’re ready when you are. 🐾❤️
