🚨 URGENT: IS ANYONE AVAILABLE TO FOSTER THIS SWEET SENIOR GIRL? 🚨

I received a call this afternoon from a woman in Vacaville who is desperately trying to find a new home for her beloved Yorkie.

This little girl has been with her family for approximately 10 years. When she was adopted from the Vacaville SPCA, the shelter estimated that she was between 3–4 years old. That would make her approximately 13–14 years old today. 💔

Her owner is dealing with ongoing medical issues, and with her children now away at college, she has reached the heartbreaking point where she can no longer provide the care this senior girl needs.

She is spayed, vaccinated and microchipped.

Here is what her owner told me:

❤️ She is very well behaved.
❤️ She interacts well with people but prefers to spend her days quietly napping in her bed.
❤️ She is crate trained.
❤️ She uses p*e pads if she has an accident.
❤️ She has always eaten dry dog food.
❤️ She has had no significant health issues other than an eye injury last year that was treated and healed.
❤️ She is not a constant barker. She will let you know when she wants to come inside from the backyard.

This is a senior dog who has spent roughly a decade with the same family. She doesn’t understand why her life is suddenly changing. At 13 or 14 years old, she deserves to spend her remaining years feeling safe, loved and secure—not frightened or passed from place to place. 🥺💔

🙏 IS THERE ANYONE IN THE VACAVILLE/SACRAMENTO AREA WHO COULD OPEN THEIR HOME TO THIS GIRL?

We desperately need a foster home so we can help her.

If you can foster, please complete our foster application at https://www.gunterslegacy.org/glar-foster-application or send me a private message. Gunter’s Legacy provides all medical care, food and any other necessities needed while she is in foster care. You provide the safe, loving home she needs.

Even if you cannot foster, PLEASE SHARE. You never know who among your friends or followers might be the person she is waiting for.

Let’s not let this little senior girl spend her golden years wondering where her family went. ❤️🐾

🎉🥁 DRUM ROLL, PLEASE! 🥁🎉

ZUKO HAS BEEN ADOPTED! ❤️🐾

And he has a new name, a new family, and TWO canine siblings!

Everyone, meet Tuco! Formerly Zuko, this little guy has officially been adopted by his incredible fosters, Ray and Kim. And honestly, we could not have written a better ending to his story. 🥹❤️

But let’s go back to where this story began…

Tuco was sitting in a shelter in Sacramento, and it was his LAST DAY.

Lisa Milanes, who runs the Chihuahua Rescue Network in Sacramento, reached out to us and asked if there was any way we could help him.

There was just one problem.

We didn’t have a foster.

And at this point, we cannot pull a dog unless we have a committed foster home.

I spoke with the shelter staff, and they told me that someone had actually shown interest in Tuco. Unfortunately, because he was Rescue Only at the time, they could not adopt him directly.

Thankfully, that person had left their information with the shelter.

His name was Ray.

I reached out to Ray and asked if he would consider fostering Tuco for us. He said yes! Then he mentioned his partner, Kim—and her name sounded familiar.

Sure enough, when I looked it up, Kim had previously submitted an application to adopt a dog from Gunter’s Legacy Animal Rescue.

It was meant to be. ❤️

We were able to use her existing application to process the foster, Ray and Kim completed the foster contract, and Zuko was on his way to safety.

We thought, Okay, this is going to be easy breezy.

Well…not exactly. 😳

Tuco had contracted kennel cough at the shelter, and when Ray picked him up, he was coughing his head off.

We quickly scheduled a veterinary appointment, and Ray took him to every single appointment.

His kennel cough turned into pneumonia, and what followed was a long trail of medications and veterinary visits as we tried to get his respiratory infection under control.

Finally, we did.

But poor Tuco wasn’t finished with his medical journey.

He developed a severe urinary tract infection that required urine cultures to determine exactly what was going on. Eventually, the vets figured it out, and he needed two different antibiotics to knock that infection out.

Meanwhile, his coughing finally started to subside.

And poor Kim was finally able to get some sleep. 😂❤️

We had already postponed his neuter twice because he was sick. When Ray drove him to Sacramento to finally have the procedure done, they refused to perform it because of Zuko’s age.

So we quickly scheduled him with Gold Country, and they got him in.

Ray once again made the trip with him.

During the procedure, the veterinarian took a look at Tuco’s teeth.

They were absolutely HORRENDOUS.

The doctor recommended a dental, and we didn’t hesitate.

Tuco had 19 teeth removed.

NINETEEN.

Poor little guy must have been in so much pain. 💔

But now?

He is recovering. He is feeling better. He has his health back. He has two canine siblings.

And most importantly…

He has HOME. 🏡❤️

Ray and Kim recently gave us the news we had been hoping for but weren’t sure would happen:

They couldn’t let him go.

They had fallen completely in love with him and wanted to officially adopt him.

So Zuko became Tuco, and his foster family became his forever family. ❤️🐾

We couldn’t be happier.

Ray and Kim are absolutely wonderful people and incredible animal lovers. Tuco truly hit the jackpot.

And we have to say it again because this story proves it:

❤️ FOSTERING SAVES LIVES. ❤️

If Ray hadn’t left his information at the shelter…

If he hadn’t been willing to foster…

If Kim hadn’t already applied with us…

If they hadn’t opened their home to this sick little dog…

Rico might not be here today.

Instead, the little dog who was on his LAST DAY at the shelter is now sleeping safely in a home with people who adore him and two canine siblings by his side.

That’s what fostering does.

It gives dogs like Tuco a chance.

Congratulations, Tuco! 🎉🐾❤️

And to Ray and Kim—thank you for opening your hearts and your home. Thank you for taking him to every appointment, giving him his medications, nursing him through pneumonia and a terrible UTI, getting him through surgery and a 19-tooth dental, and most of all…

Thank you for becoming his forever family.

We couldn’t have asked for a better ending. ❤️

FOSTERING SAVES LIVES.

🎓🐾 GRADUATION DAY FOR LILI! 🐾🎓

Today, we get to celebrate something very special! ❤️

We are officially graduating Alice, Kyle & Tula from foster family to FOREVER FAMILY because they have adopted our sweet, spirited little Lili! 🥰🐶

Lili is one of those little dogs who has a BIG personality. She is full of spirit, charm, and personality—and somehow, she has a way of working her way right into your heart. ❤️

Alice, Kyle & Tula opened their home to Lili and fostered her while she waited to become fully vaccinated. Well… once Lili was officially ready, there was really no question about what needed to happen next. They fell in love, and Lili became theirs forever! 🏡❤️

We couldn’t be happier to welcome Alice, Kyle, Tula AND Lili to the Gunter’s Legacy Animal Rescue adopter family! 🎉

We wish this beautiful family a long, happy, healthy life filled with love, laughter, cuddles, and plenty of Lili’s spirited little antics! 🐾❤️

We know without a doubt that Lili has found her perfect forever family. 🥹❤️

Congratulations to everyone!
Happy Tails, Lili! 🐾🎓❤️

💙🐾 ROCKY ROCKET UPDATE! 🚀🐾💙

Rocky Rocket is home after his neuter surgery today, but he is NOT a happy boy. 😢 He’s not feeling well and doesn’t want to eat, which is making it a little difficult to get his pain medication into him.

Thankfully, Rocky is home with his fantastic foster, Shannon, who is keeping a very close eye on him. We know she is worried about him—and so are all of us. It’s never easy watching one of our babies feel sick or uncomfortable, and we know it’s especially upsetting for Shannon because she’s right there with him seeing what he’s going through. ❤️

The good news is that Rocky did great through his surgery, and now we just need to get him through recovery. Please send this little guy all your positive thoughts, prayers, and healing vibes for a fast and uneventful recovery. 🙏🐶💙

💰 ROCKY’S VET BILL UPDATE

His pre-op and surgery today came to just over $600. So far, we have raised approximately $120, leaving us with a significant balance still to cover.

We also want to give a HUGE thank-you to the wonderful doctors and staff at Pawsh Place Veterinary Center & Boutique. They are always extremely professional, kind, and polite—whether I’m calling them or they are calling me. We truly appreciate the care they give our dogs. ❤️

If you can help us with Rocky’s veterinary expenses, any donation, no matter how small, makes a difference. 🙏

And from all of us at Gunter’s Legacy Animal Rescue, THANK YOU to everyone who has sent Rocky good thoughts, prayers, encouragement, and donations. ❤️

We truly could not do this without you. 🐾

Now let’s get those positive vibes going for our Rocky Rocket! 🚀💙🐶
Feel better soon, little man! ❤️🙏

🐾💙 ZUKO UPDATE! 💙🐾

We have an update on our sweet Zuko, and first, we want to send a HUGE thank-you to the amazing staff and doctors at Gold Country Veterinary Hospital in Auburn. ❤️ We are incredibly grateful for the care they provide to our dogs and for the kindness they show us every time we are there.

Zuko went in today for his neuter surgery. While he was under anesthesia, the surgical team checked his teeth—and unfortunately, they discovered a LOT of fistulas and rotten teeth. 😢

The surgeon called us and recommended that we go ahead and do the dental while Zuko was already under anesthesia. We agreed because the last thing we wanted was to make this poor little guy go through anesthesia and another surgery all over again in four months.

So, Zuko had his dental today, too. 💔

He lost all of his bottom incisors and quite a few teeth on the top. Needless to say, he is NOT a happy boy right now—and honestly, we don’t blame him. 😢

He was sent home with pain medication, and his fantastic fosters, Ray and Kim, are keeping a very close eye on him and making sure he is comfortable. ❤️🐾

💰 THE BILL

We were expecting a $175 neuter.

Instead, because of the unexpected dental and extensive extractions, today’s bill came to $1,346.36.

And here’s something we are extremely grateful for: Gold Country Veterinary Hospital gives Gunter’s Legacy a 30% rescue discount, so that $1,346.36 is already AFTER their generous discount. ❤️

We have received just $20 in donations toward Zuko’s surgery so far.

Today has been a VERY busy day—and unfortunately, a VERY expensive one. Between unexpected medical needs and our ongoing veterinary expenses, these surprise bills can be incredibly difficult for a small rescue like ours.

If you are able to help Zuko today, any amount makes a difference. Our donations are tax-deductible, and every dollar goes directly toward helping dogs like Zuko receive the medical care they desperately need. 🐶❤️

Please also keep our little Zuko in your thoughts as he recovers. He has had a rough day, but hopefully he will soon realize that his painful, rotten teeth are gone and he can start feeling so much better. ❤️

Thank you to everyone who continues to support Gunter’s Legacy Animal Rescue. We truly could not do this without you. 🐾💙🙏

Tomorrow Is a Big Day for Zuko!Gold Country Veterinary Hospitalwill be heading to Gold Country Veterinary Hospital in Auburn to finally get neutered! 🙏

We want to start by giving a HUGE thank-you to Dr. Wallace, who has taken such wonderful care of Zuko. We are incredibly grateful for the time, attention, and medical care he has received. ❤️

Zuko came to us from a shelter in Sacramento, where we pulled him on his LAST DAY. He was scheduled to be euthanized. 💔

Thankfully, he got his second chance.

And what a second chance it has been!

Zuko has been with two absolutely wonderful foster parents, Ray and Kim, and they have fallen completely in love with him. 🥰 We are keeping our fingers crossed that they decide to make him a permanent member of their family! 🏡❤️

When Zuko left the shelter, we were told he had kennel cough.

Unfortunately, once he was out of the shelter and evaluated, we learned it was much more serious—it was pneumonia.

Ray has been incredibly diligent about getting Zuko to every appointment and making sure he received all of the care he needed. And Kim… well, she went above and beyond. ❤️

When Zuko was really sick, Kim actually slept in her downstairs office with him because she didn’t want to leave him alone. She wanted to make sure he was okay throughout the night.

These are the kinds of foster families that make rescue possible. They don’t just open their homes—they open their hearts. ❤️

After weeks of Zuko going through several different medications, we are thrilled to say that his pneumonia is finally gone! 🎉

But unfortunately, we weren’t done yet.

A urine culture showed that Zuko had two different strains of bacteria, both of which can be extremely difficult to eliminate. He had to go on a very strong antibiotic to treat the infection.

And now… KNOCK ON WOOD! 🪵🤞

We are finally hoping that Zuko is healthy and ready for his next chapter.

Tomorrow, he gets neutered! 🐾✂️

Of course, all of this medical care comes at a cost, and we could really use some help with Zuko’s veterinary expenses. Any donation, no matter how small, would be greatly appreciated. ❤️

All donations to Gunter’s Legacy Animal Rescue are tax-deductible.

You may also be able to call Gold Country Veterinary Hospital directly and make a donation toward Zuko’s veterinary bill under Gunter’s Legacy Animal Rescue.

Thank you to everyone who has supported Zuko, prayed for him, donated toward his care, and cheered him on.

And an especially HUGE thank-you to Ray and Kim for loving this boy through some very scary weeks. ❤️

From a shelter dog on his last day… to a beloved foster who is finally getting healthy.

THIS is why rescue matters. 🐾❤️

Tomorrow Is a Big Day for Rocky ❤️🐾

Tomorrow is a BIG day here at Gunter’s Legacy Animal Rescue—and an even bigger day for our sweet Rocky. ❤️

Rocky is our special French Bulldog who gets around in a wheelchair. He has been with us for so many months, and during that time he has completely stolen our hearts. He is one of the sweetest boys you could ever meet. 🥰

Even his veterinarian believes Rocky would make an excellent therapy dog. He has such a gentle, loving personality, and despite everything he has been through, he just wants to love people.

Rocky has been incredibly fortunate to have had the most amazing foster, Shannon, by his side this entire time. We cannot say enough about her. She has been absolutely fantastic, and we have nothing but respect, appreciation, and gratitude for everything she has done for Rocky. ❤️

Tomorrow, Rocky is finally going in to be neutered. 🙏

We are especially hopeful that having him neutered will help with his constant urinary tract infections (UTIs) and give this sweet boy some much-needed relief.

His surgery and veterinary care at Pawsh Place Veterinary Center & Boutique
are expected to cost approximately $600, and we would be incredibly grateful for any donation you can make toward Rocky’s care. Every dollar helps, and all donations are tax-deductible. ❤️

And there’s one more very important thing…

🏡 ROCKY IS AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION! 🏡

If you’ve been looking for an especially sweet, loving, and very special boy, please consider Rocky. He may roll on wheels, but he has a heart that is absolutely enormous. ❤️

Please keep Rocky in your thoughts tomorrow and, if you can, help us get him through his surgery.

Thank you for loving our Rocky as much as we do. 🐾❤️

💔 We lost Little Bit last night. 💔

I don’t even know where to begin.

Little Bit had congestive heart failure and, until recently, was being managed with several medications. Unfortunately, the medications eventually stopped working. His veterinarian added a steroid, and for a couple of days it seemed to help. We were so hopeful that we might have a little more time with him.

But last night, everything changed.

Little Bit suddenly tanked. We rushed him to the emergency veterinarian, hoping and praying they could save him. But by the time we arrived, our little boy was already gone. 💔

I feel absolutely awful.

This poor little dog had spent months living alone in a mobile home after his person was placed in a facility. He was essentially left behind, waiting for someone to notice him.

Thankfully, someone did.

He came into rescue, and we were able to give him the care, medications, love and attention he deserved. But I wish we could have had more time. I wish he had gotten more time to simply be a dog—to know what it felt like to be safe, loved and wanted.

I keep thinking about how much he had already lost and how unfair it feels that we didn’t get more time with him.

But I also have to remind myself that his story didn’t end in that mobile home.

He wasn’t alone when he died.

He was loved. ❤️

Run free, Little Bit. You deserved so much more than the life you were given, and I hope you knew just how loved you were in the time we had you.

I will write more about this sweet little boy later. Right now, my heart just hurts. 💔🌈

Rest peacefully, Little Bit. You mattered. You were loved. You will be missed. 🐾
