As this snowstorm bears down, my heart is breaking for the dogs no one will see.
The ones chained to a tree.
The ones in wire kennels with no insulation.
The mothers bred over and over, their bodies already exhausted.
The puppies born into cold, fear, and neglect, never given a chance.
These are the dogs of unethical and backyard breeders. The dogs treated as inventory instead of living, feeling beings. While families prepare, stock up, and bring their pets inside, these dogs are left outside to โtough it out.โ Many wonโt. Some will freeze. Some will starve. Some will simply disappear and no one will ever count them.
There is no excuse.
Not ignorance.
Not profit.
Not โtheyโre animals.โ
Dogs are not disposable. They are not weatherproof. They are not breeding machines.
If you buy puppies from backyard breeders, you are funding this.
If you look the other way, you are allowing it.
If you know itโs happening and stay silent, the silence is deadly.
Even the most cold-tolerant dogs can quickly develop hypothermia and frostbite when temperatures fall below 20 degrees Fahrenheit. More vulnerable dogs can be at risk starting at 32 degrees Fahrenheit and may feel uncomfortable when temperatures drop below 45 degrees Fahrenheit.
Please:
โข Report neglect if you see dogs left outside in dangerous conditions
โข Support rescues and shelters, especially during extreme weather
โข Spay and neuter
โข Stop buying dogs from unethical breedersโadopt or use responsible, humane breeders only
This storm will pass.
But for many dogs, it will be the last thing they ever feel.
Speak up for the ones who canโt.
