Meet Tasha! ๐ฑ๐ This beautiful old lady was brought to us from a follower who found her wondering around their home for a few weeks. She looked very fragile and sick, so they reached out to us for help. We usually don't take in adults, but something about this girl was pulling at my heartstrings.
This is a long post, so buckle up! When she arrived, she did have a microchip which told us she is just shy of 17 years old, spayed and her name is Tasha. It also gave us her previous owners name and number, but it was registered 16 years ago and the number is now inactive. We have tried digging up info for the owner, but no luck except some other posts saying other people were also concerned for the cat and looking for an owner. She has two days left on her stray hold before we will officially say she is a sanctuary cat.
Here's our findings from the vet. She has hairloss from fleas, so we treated her with bravecto. She is very, very emaciated and her eyes are so sunken in that you can barely see them. One of her ears shows evidence of a previous hematoma, most likely from mites or an ear infection. Her teeth are quite literally rotting out of her mouth. She is very dehydrated. Bloodwork was surprisingly very good for her age, thyroid was normal with some evaluations indicating GI inflammation. Today she had the worst diarrhea I've ever seen and smelled in my life, so we are pretty sure she has gi lymphoma. Not good, but it doesn't hurt to try treatment.
Here's her plan. Bland diet, probiotics, metro, steriods, dewormer, subq fluids, terramycin ointment for her eyes, and gabapentin for pain management. Next week if she doesn't improve significantly, we plan on doing x-rays, IV fluids, IV metro, clorambucil (chemo), and bup for full coverage of pain. If there is no change in about a week or two, then we will have to choose euthanasia.
Her total has already surpassed $500 and next week will be another $300-500 for treatments if needed.
