Meet Adeline! ๐Ÿ€ She was surrendered to us last weekend, but I never got around to posting about her. Her previous owner surrendered her due to her losing all her rat friends who were elderly. Her owner knew she needed to be with more friends, but didn't want to continue having rats.

On intake, she looks a lot older than they said she is, but I think it was just since she was in rough shape. She's around 10 months old. She came in very underweight and with lice. Lice seems to be a theme with our rat intakes recently. ๐Ÿ™„
We applied revolution and her coat is already looking so much better. She needs to gain weight before we will feel comfortable adopting her out, so today we introduced her to our sanctuary rats for the time being. If she doesn't gain weight, we will make a vet appt to make sure she is not dealing with a health issue that is causing weight loss.

She is a very sweet girl and just wants to be loved. We are so happy to have her here with us! ๐Ÿ’–

This just in: Twiggy is gaining consciousness! ๐Ÿ‘€๐Ÿฑ

This little gal is about 2 weeks old now and her eyes and ears are wide open. She's taking it all in and wow, is this world interesting! She has been with us for a week now and is growing and gaining weight everyday.

Mark your calendars! ๐Ÿ“… ๐Ÿฐ The annual Midwest Bunfest is coming to Columbus, Ohio this October 25th from 10am-4pm at The Makoy in Hilliard, Ohio.

This amazing event is one of the few things I look forward to every year and for the first time ever, Happy Horizon will be one of the attending rescue partners! ๐ŸŽ‰

Why do I love this event so much?
๐Ÿ› The large variety of small pet vendors coming together all in one place! From well known products like Oxbow to small businesses on Etsy, there's plenty to choose from. They don't just sell rabbit items either, most items can also be used for other small mammals like guinea pigs, hamsters, mice, and rats.
๐Ÿฉบ Information sessions on a wide variety of rabbit related topics lead by exotic vets and rabbit specialists.
๐Ÿ“ธ Glamor shots, Bunny Spa and a Rabbit Lounge.
๐Ÿซถ Meeting other people who are just as passionate about animal welfare as you are!

Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for children and FREE for your rabbits. That's right, your rabbits get to come too! All rabbits must be updated on their rhdv2 vaccine with proof of vaccination to enter. I found it best if you bring a pet stroller for your rabbit.

Gemma and June had recheck vet appointments on Monday. ๐Ÿน๐Ÿ’–

Gemma had a recheck of her ear infection. She seems to have cleared the infection, but she still has a remaining head tilt. This may just be a permanent thing that won't effect her much. We are still waiting for her liver supplement to come in the mail, so we can start that as well. We are happy to report that she has gained weight since being with us!

June was seen for continuing to lose weight even though she's eating a ton and doesn't seem sick. She already had bloodwork that was normal, her physical exam was unremarkable both times, so we did full body x-rays which we believe gave us our answer. Her heart was pretty large on rads, so we are highly suspicious of heart disease being the cause of her frail body condition. She is now being started on two different heart medications to see if that improves her quality of life.

Due to having issues that will most likely cause lifelong issues, both Gemma and June will not be available for adoption, they will stay within the rescue as sanctuary pets. What that does mean is that we need a special person as a sanctuary foster for these girls. Someone who is willing to care for them for a long period or the rest of their lives while being under direction of our rescue and vet. All expenses, supplies, medications and vet visits for these girls would be fully paid for by our rescue, all we need is YOU. Someone with a kind heart to give them love and attention while they navigate their difficulties. Someone who is comfortable giving medications and watching for symptoms that could indicate they are struggling and need to see the vet.

Meet Piada, Noodle and CoCo! They are the sweetest girls.๐Ÿฉท
Piada is a tri color (black, orange, and white) abyssinian who is roughly 8 months old. She is the shy one of the group. She looks to Noodle and CoCo for confidence, but is such a beautiful, sweet girl.
Noodle is a brown, orange and white american who is roughly 6 months old. She is still pretty young, but is really getting the hang of being social. She hesitates at first, but is quick to jump in for treats and attention. She likes to climb ontop of her houses.
CoCo is a tri color (black, orange and black) american who is the oldest of the bunch at around 4 years old. She is very social and talkative. She is the first to sound the alarm when she hears me coming. She loves to be pet once shes comfortable with you and her favorite thing is laying on her piggy couch. She is the leader of the group.
This trio of girls is inseparable and must go home together. They are all super sweet and deserve the best forever home!

Meet River! He is a very handsome male mouse estimated to be about 6 months old. He has a beautiful black, brown, and white coloring and longer hair than most mice. While he's stunning, he still needs some work on handling. He is a bit timid and scared of human interaction, so he will need someone who is willing to work and bond with him. He is now ready to find a loving home!

Meet Samoa! Samoa is a beautiful torti colored syrian hamster with black, white and orange spots. She is estimated to be about a year old and is very outgoing and social. She wakes up pretty early every evening so she can make sure to say hello before you go off to bed. She loves running on her wheel and stuffing her cheeks to the brim with food. She also loves to sit on her back feet like a meerkat to get a good view of her surroundings. She is good with being held and is the sweetest girl!
She is now available for adoption, but we will be picky with her new home due to her being an adult female syrian. She must be housed in a minimum of a 800-1,000 sq inch enclosure (Ex. 75 gallon or largest BUCASTATE size). We will be picky on cage size and enrichment for her.

Our adoption fee for hamsters are $25.
