Think tarantulas are scary? Bob might change your mind! 🕷️👀

Meet Bob, one of our curly hair tarantula ambassadors! In today’s reel, Tiffany is breaking down one of the most fascinating ways tarantulas protect themselves: flicking their hairs!

When threatened, many New World tarantulas can release tiny, irritating hairs from their abdomen as a defense against predators. These are called urticating hairs, and they can cause irritation to the skin and eyes.

And while tarantulas do have venom, most species commonly kept as ambassadors, including curly hair tarantulas, aren’t considered medically dangerous to healthy humans.

These eight-legged creatures have a pretty intimidating reputation, but there’s so much more to them than meets the eye! 🖤

While we were out filming something completely different, Kass happened to spot a wild snake! And honestly, we couldn’t have planned a better way to show you what makes our night hikes so exciting. 😂

Meet Zucchini! 🐢🥒

Some turtles love attention, some love adventure, and Zucchini? Well, he prefers to mind his business.

This easygoing Eastern Box Turtle enjoys the simple things in life: a good nap buried in the dirt, a quiet hiding spot, and, of course, zucchini!

While his roommates are busy doing their own thing, Zucchini can usually be found with just his head sticking out, keeping an eye on everything without getting involved. 👀

He knows all the gossip, but he’s certainly not telling anyone. 😂

Who’s the real danger in a chicken coop: the snake or the chicken? 🐍🐔👀

We're taking you inside the chicken coop at Gorman Heritage Farm for a little wildlife education with Kass!

Black rat snakes are often found around barns, farms, and chicken coops, where they may be searching for rodents, eggs, or shelter. While snakes tend to get a bad reputation for showing up in these spaces, chickens can actually pose a threat to snakes, too!

And that's where understanding wildlife becomes so important. 🌿

Black rat snakes play a valuable role in our ecosystems by helping control rodent populations, and learning why they show up in certain spaces can help us find better ways to coexist with them.

Watch as Kass breaks down the relationship between these animals and why the snake isn't always the biggest threat in the coop!

🐍🩺 There is truly never a boring day at Dino Buddies, and some days are dedicated to vet visits!

Our girl Cersei recently headed to Pet Care Animal Hospital in Blue Ash for her annual physical, and we’re happy to report that she’s happy and healthy! 💚

During her visit, Dr. Hill checked out those impressive Burmese python teeth, performed a physical exam that included palpation, and drew some blood.

Did you know there are different ways to determine whether a snake is male or female? 👀🐍 Probing and blood testing are two methods used by veterinary professionals, and both were part of Cersei’s visit as we worked toward officially confirming her s*x!

While our animal ambassadors spend plenty of time educating and inspiring others, there’s also a lot of work that happens behind the scenes to ensure they’re receiving the best possible care. Regular veterinary visits are just one part of that commitment!

A HUGE thank you to Dr. Hill and the team at Pet Care Animal Hospital for taking such great care of Cersei! 🐍💚

Sometimes things have a way of coming full circle. 💚🌿

Tiffany’s journey in the animal world started at Gorman Heritage Farm when she was just 16 years old. When it was time for her to attend college she went to The Ohio State University where she was studying equine science, until a friend from class gave her her first snake and helped send her down a completely different path. 🐍

Years later, that path led to Dino Buddies, and now we have the opportunity to return to where it all began as Gorman Heritage Farm’s conservation partner.

From wildlife surveys and conservation projects to helping rehabilitate and eventually release Eastern Box Turtles, our work with Gorman means so much more knowing the history behind it.

It’s pretty incredible to see what can come from one farm, one snake, and a lifelong love of animals. 💚
