Cal’y Shepherds

Cal’y Shepherds Our sole purpose is to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome dogs in need, providing them with compassionate care, medical treatment, and a safe environment.

Our focus breed is the German Shepherd dog, because they tend to struggle in shelter environments.

Hoppy Easter from the Chipmunk crew! 🐣🐇🐶 Alvin, Simon, Theodore, Brittney, Eleanor, Jeanette, Chip and Dale had their 4-week old birthday Friday and got their first round of vaccinations and dewormers. They are starting to eat gruel, doing a great job of keeping their bedding clean and potty on the puppy pads, and love rough housing with each other. I’m excited to see how much more they grow before they’re ready for their forever homes in early May. 🥰

Small step in a big world. 🌎 Thank you SPCA Cincinnati and Lauri Sloneker for trusting in me! 🙌🫶🐕

SPCA Cincinnati is proud to announce the current recipient of our Pawsitive Impact Microgrant Program — a $1,000 investment in the critical and lifesaving work of Cal'y Shepherds.

Working collaboratively with animal welfare organizations across Greater Cincinnati is important to our cause and our entire community. Many of these agencies are small. Many are entirely volunteer-run. And many — like Cal'y Shepherds — are start-up nonprofits looking to make a difference.

Carly Evans was inspired to create a foster care 501(c)3 by the work she's done through SPCA's foster program. Carly recently took in 8 puppies, who are two weeks old, and their mother. Being a new nonprofit, Cal'y Shepherds was in need of support that would help remove and protect these animals from an unstable environment.

SPCA Cincinnati is grateful to be able to step in the fold and provide funds for Cal'y Shepherds' cause — that also includes vaccinations, spay/neuters, and medical care for the next couple of months!

This $1,000 microgrant will strengthen their mission — helping ensure more homeless and sick companion animals have a fighting chance.

SPCA Cincinnati believes building a truly humane community requires partnership — not competition. The Pawsitive Impact Microgrant Program exists to strengthen the broader ecosystem of care across Greater Cincinnati.

When small organizations are stronger, animals are safer.
Applications for microgrants (up to $1,000 per award) are open on a rolling basis for eligible animal welfare organizations serving Greater Cincinnati.

Some days being a foster momma is ruff. Me & momma have differing opinions on where the pups should be… she thinks a cold cement floor, I would like her on a warmer textured surface where the babies can get a grip when they’re trying to crawl to her for feeding. She was mad at me for trying to keep something underneath them, I was mad at her for not trusting me that the floor is not warm enough. At the end of the day, we compromised. (By compromise I mean she pretended to be content & moved them again when I came back inside 🤨)

I caught momma in such a relatable moment last night… laying on her back napping while her babies fed on her like little pigs. 😂🥰 Being a new mom is exhausting but she’s doing an amazing job so far, I just follow her cues & do as she requests. I’ve been trying to play catch up on all of the administrative tasks of the rescue so we finally have a zelle tag (calyshepherds) and a chewy wishlist for donations. Also I’m welcoming suggestions for the name theme of this litter… do you have any suggestions? 🧐

Momma & babies did great overnight! 🤗 She’s such a good dog… clear was fully potty and obedience trained in a former home. Her momma instincts are on point. During potty breaks she goes out, does her business & beelines back towards the garage to her babies. I’m still trying to line up someone who can foster for me from 3/21-3/27. Either just to come let her out for potty breaks, make sure she has food and water, and check up on the pups a few times/day at my house or in your home (I’d want her “den” (kennel) to come with her so she doesn’t feel like I’m moving her again”. I’d like to get someone in line ASAP so it’s one less thing to worry about. 🙏

Momma & 8 babies have arrived! They’re only 1 day old & SO TINY!!! 🥹 Wish I could’ve gotten them yesterday so she didn’t have to lose one of her babies for no reason but hopefully we keep the rest safe & happy in their new den.

Pardon the language but she’s not wrong 😂🤷‍♀️
