A question we get a lot is: Is it too soon to start training my puppy? The answer is you can start training as soon as you bring your puppy home. Eddie’s third outing was a fantastic success! We visited Home Depot for the first time, and I managed to capture a wonderful moment with him.
When working with dogs in public, people often want to stop and interact. In many cases, the dogs aren't quite ready for direct human contact yet, so I advocate for them by inviting people to toss treats from a comfortable distance instead.
During this trip, a few people approached us. Rather than reacting or lunging as he might have in the past, Eddie chose to create space and calmly step behind me. Seeing him make that choice is such an exciting milestone! It’s the small wins that build long-term success, and I love watching his progress unfold! ❤️🐾

As someone who has personally felt the mental and emotional impact that animals have on people almost everyday for the last 15 years, it was an honor and privilege to have the opportunity to speak on it, in support of finding this lost emotional support dog. Many people don't understand the impact these animals have on people's lives, especially those who struggle to communicate in the traditional forms or feel removed from society. Dogs don't need words, they don't need anything special, they can operate off strictly love and body language. Working with clients and their dogs through private lessons and day training provides a unique opportunity to watch their skills progress. While clients often focus heavily on the next skill they want to develop or problem to solve, I get the pleasure and honor of observing the progress they've made since our last appointment.

The other day Baxter came to the kennel for his day training session. His mom explained that barking was her next priority for training.

However, looking back at our initial goals for Baxter, I was extremely pleased to watch him throughout the day. He waited patiently to be leashed. He entered and exited thresholds calmly and patiently. He checked in with me more frequently, even voluntarily.

At pick up, I made sure to share with mom how impressed I was with some of the skills they’ve been working on. She replied that she had been working on them. I thought, oh girl, I know you have! From an outside perspective it is an absolute privilege to witness these
transformations as their trainer.

There are two points that I want clients to take away from this. One, progress can be harder to see when you’re in the trenches. Take the time to step back and appreciate the wins. Two, credit for progress doesn’t belong to just your trainer and the program. Your time, consistency and dedication makes all of this possible and deserves recognition.

Welcome Mr Eddie!! He is joining the Kodas family to work on his reactivity. He is just the sweetest boy whose main goal is confidence building and exposure! This fearful boy will be with me for the next 2 weeks and we’re already off to a great start!
