This sock, glove, shoe & bra thief wannabe feral raccoon brought a ball to me while we were outside today. More than once 😭 She finds being outside (period) more reinforcing than most anything and she’s usually too anxious to do any kind of structured play. I don’t teach fetch and let the dogs decide how they want to interact with toys. She likes to bring me toys inside so for her to do this outside is HUGE. This was entirely her decision and I’m so happy for her.

These two are making me look good!

What you don’t see is the many, MANY months it took me (with help from other professionals) to get Ellison to actually have fun with balls instead
of keeping them to himself for chomping and screaming. He’s not what we’d call relaxed but we have a beautiful rhythm to our play now. Not only that, he rarely runs to the fence to bark and lunge at people going by (don’t ask me about cats) because the reinforcement from me is more fun. It’s been a long process. Remember, your dog with big feelings isn’t giving you a hard time, they’re having a hard time.
As for Chaka, well, she on that feral doodle life IYKYK 😂

Have you ever taught an accidental verbal cue? How about an accidental recall cue? I think because I asked Chaka so many times if she wanted some cheese, and then broke off a chunk for her, “cheese” has now become a recall cue. Faster and more reliable than our regular and taught “front.”

I’m not mad about it at all. I just can’t run out of string cheese. Ever. 😂

Look for the helpers! After even the smallest of shreds, Ellison is happy to help clean up his own mess. I started training this in case he ever felt the need to try to eat some fluff from a stuffie. He gets more reinforcement and I get some help.

2. Liberty to take long naps
3. Treat equality
4. Pursuit of birds, butterflies and squirrels
5. Right to commence dramatic tooth fencing immediately following Netflix “ta-doom” sound
6. After dinner chews
7. Chews at non-dinner time
8. Right to shred stuffies and cardboard
9. Equal access to cool, tile flooring
10. Freedom to decide what is or what is not reinforcing (secretly number one)
