We had to say 'good-bye' as our sweet Jett crossed over the Rainbow Bridge this weekend. She was the epitome of the perfect neutral dog. Jett helped many teams obtain their Canine Good Citizen title with her effortless neutrality when it came to other dogs. She had a big heart and an independent spirit that will be sorely missed. RIP Jett. I hope you are chasing chickens over the Rainbow Bridge, which is what got you in trouble and why we got to adopt you! 💔

This cannot be overstated in dog training, as much as horse training, "let go before they fight you and ask before it’s necessary.“ Rodney Jenkins, world-renowned equestrian breaks it down. Dogs work best when they feel safe.

The reply given to a question about the abilities of a rather well known horse personality---

“She’s more of a driller than a trainer.”

I have noticed that many people who began as drillers and grinders of horses, as they got older and got more experience, have become teachers and explainers rather than makers and forcers.

Part of this is temperament, part is education, but part comes from the realization that force and coercion simply don’t produce confident and responsive horses.

So the point is, why wait? If you are going to become a better trainer sooner or later, why not make the switch sooner?
