Over the weekend, we were contacted about a mama dog in Alabama whose story could have ended very differently. She had wandered onto someone's property as a stray, looking for food, shelter, and a safe place to rest.

When they reached out to their local shelter for help, they were told that if she was brought in, she would likely be euthanized due to a lack of space. Unable to accept that outcome, they brought her home instead.Shortly afterward, they discovered she was pregnant. By the time they realized she had given birth, four of her nine puppies had already passed away. Wanting to give Mama and her remaining babies the best chance possible, they reached out to us for help.

The truth is, we couldn't immediately say yes.

Like many rescues, we have to balance urgent needs with the foster homes, supplies, and resources we have available. After a few days of evaluating our capacity and moving things around, we were able to make it work.

Today, we finally got to meet them. Please help us welcome our Soda Pup Crew:
🥤 Mama Poppi
🥤 Fresca
🥤 Dr. Pepper
🥤 Fanta
🥤 Mr. Pibb
🥤 Sq**rt (the runt of the gang)

Stories like this are a reminder that rescue is often a chain of ordinary people making one compassionate decision after another. Someone chose to stop and help a stray. Someone chose not to accept that euthanasia was her only option. Someone chose to ask for help when the puppies needed more than they could provide on their own.

If you'd like to be part of that chain, one of the most impactful ways to help is through monthly giving. Even a few dollars a month helps create the stability that allows us to say yes faster when urgent cases like this come in. You can set up a monthly donation at https://www.yourlocalfurmama.com/donate or through the link in our bio. Reliable support means we can spend less time figuring out if we can take on a case and more time getting animals to safety.

Not in a position to donate? Consider fostering. We provide the supplies, medical care, training, and support. You provide a safe place for an animal to land. Fosters are the backbone of everything we do, and we are always looking for more people willing to open their homes and hearts.

Because of those choices, a mama and her five puppies are safe today and have the chance at a future that looked far from guaranteed just a few weeks ago. We can't wait to watch this little family grow. ❤️

This past winter, on one of the absolute coldest nights of the year in Tennessee, a stray dog gave birth on a stranger’s porch. Just a few days prior, we had gotten a litter of puppies and mama who had frostbite and a few didn’t make of because of the cold. We knew this mama and her puppies would face the same fate if we didn’t spring into action fast.

Our wonderful adoption coordinator (who already had a full house of fosters), set this mama and her newborn puppies in her master bathroom (cause that was her only spare “room” at this point), where we quickly discovered that this poor mama had a hard life up until this point. She was incredibly shy and refused to leave the bathroom for a solid two weeks (so yes, her badass foster mom just cleaned up all her potty accidents lol), she didn’t want to be touched and any and all fast movement/loud sounds sent her cowering. More than likely she had been abused.

Now, 6 months later, our sweet mama Crockpot is THRIVING! She rocked motherhood and then moved in with our founder where she learned that people aren’t bad - in fact, she LOVES people.

Crockpot is fully potty/house trained, crate trained, uses a leash with very minimal pulling, absolutely loves other dogs and cats, and adores the human toddler she lives with and all the other kids she’s met. She regularly attends doggy daycare where she plays the day away with her friends while also meeting even more new humans that she loves. The best part - have you seen her EARS?!🥹

In the 6+ months we’ve had her, she has not gotten one singular adoption application. And that just breaks our heart. There is no more deserving of a dog than Crockpot. She wants a family to love so very badly and we want nothing more for her.

Please help us find her the happily ever after that she deserves.

Share her story, tag your friends, and head on over to our website to fill out an adoption application

We also want to give a major shoutout to our friends at Tank and Ollie's for making a Mama Crockpot DRINK feature for our precious girl. She got to visit with them today and get her first ever pup cup.

Last night we received an urgent call from Fulton County Animal Services in Atlanta.

Their officers had responded to a report of puppies found inside a trash bag in a dumpster. Six puppies in total were recovered. Two had already passed away before help arrived.

The remaining four were taken into animal control custody, but a critical challenge quickly followed. There were no available bottle feeders, and Atlanta’s local neonatal rescue capacity was also at its limit. With nowhere else for them to go and time running out, they reached out to us.

We are already stretched beyond capacity with neonatal kittens, but these babies needed immediate, around-the-clock care to survive, and without us, they likely would not have made it.

There is no version of this story where puppies belong in a dumpster. Only the version where we keep showing up for them anyway. When there is nowhere else for them to go, this is where they land. We are grateful to be able to be that place.

Right now they are safe, warm, and receiving the care they need to stabilize and grow stronger each day.

If stories like this move you, one of the most meaningful ways to support this work is through monthly giving. Even a few dollars a month helps us plan ahead, keep supplies stocked, and confidently say yes when the next emergency call comes in.

We want to be able to keep saying yes. That stability is what allows us to take in cases like this without hesitation.

If you are able to help, you can set up a monthly donation here: https://www.yourlocalfurmama.com/donate or through the link in our bio.

To everyone who continues to foster, share, donate, and show up for these animals, you are the reason this work is possible.

In just the past 7 days we have gotten asked for help with a total of 327 animals.

Yep. 327 in 7 days.

We’ve had to say no to almost all of them.

Most were injured, sick, or far too young to survive on their own without a mama or serious intervention.

And we had to say no.

Why?

We simply didn’t have any open fosters.

The money, the food, the supplies, we can figure all that out.

But if we don’t have a foster home to place them in, we can’t take them.

You have no idea how heartbreaking it is to have to turn them away. I wish we could say yes to every single one of them.

But, YOU can help us say yes.

When you sign up to foster with YLFM, we provide all the supplies, all the medical care, all the training, and 24/7 support. All we ask is for you to provide a temporary home with lots of love. All you need is a spare room, a spare bathroom, even some fosters use a large master closet to foster in.

Is it hard to say goodbye to your fosters? Absolutely yes. But harder than the alternative of them dying on the streets?

Sign up to foster at www.yourlocalfurmama.com/get-involved or by clicking on the link in our bio.

Yesterday, we were contacted by a member of our community whose daughter had made quite the discovery: a tiny puppy tucked inside a dumpster.

The family immediately stepped in to help, keeping her warm and feeding her puppy milk, but they knew a puppy this young would need specialized care and reached out to see if we could help. Of course, we said yes.

When Possum arrived, it was clear she was only about three weeks old. In no world should a puppy be separated from her mama that young, but unfortunately, that's the hand she was dealt. The good news is she's safe now.

Possum is currently being spoiled by one of our experienced neonatal fosters, who is making sure she gets all the nourishment, care, and around-the-clock attention a puppy her age needs to thrive.

So far, Possum's favorite activities include flattening herself directly against the nearest human, demanding access to what she believes is an all-you-can-eat buffet, and loudly announcing when it's time for her next meal. For someone so tiny, she has plenty of opinions.

We're incredibly grateful to the kind family who stopped to help, reached out when they needed support, and made sure this little girl got the care she deserves. Stories like Possum's are a reminder that it truly takes a community to save lives.

Welcome to the good life, Possum. ❤️

This afternoon, we were contacted by a good Samaritan who discovered four puppies that had been abandoned on a back road near their home. They had been left out in the rain and forced to weather the storm on their own. Soaked, cold, and in need of help, they couldn't wait another minute.

Our Adoption Coordinator left the Chattanooga Ren Faire ( )to pick them up and make sure they had a safe place to land as quickly as possible.

All four puppies were severely bloated from worms, filthy from head to toe, and some even had gum matted into their fur. It's hard to know how long they had been out there, but it was clear they hadn't had an easy start. Thankfully, those days are behind them.

After a much-needed bath, full bellies, and their first round of medical care, everyone is now warm, safe, and settling into their foster homes where they can finally rest and decompress.

We'd like to introduce you to The Ren Faire Litter:

While we're incredibly grateful these puppies are now safe, every rescue comes with expenses. Between veterinary care, deworming, vaccines, food, and supplies, costs add up quickly, especially during an already overwhelming kitten season.

If you're able to support their care by shopping our Amazon or Chewy wishlists or making a donation, we would be so grateful. We truly couldn't do this work without our incredible Fur Mama community.

Donations can be made by visiting our website at www.yourlocalfurmama.com/donate or by clicking the link in our bio.

Unable to donate but still want to help? Sharing our posts, inviting friends to follow our page, and helping spread the word makes a bigger difference than you might realize. Those actions are completely free and help us continue reaching the people who make rescue possible.

This morning we got a call from a rescue we work with in Georgia ( ) who had come across a cat carrier in the woods, inside the cat carrier was a mama cat and 7 kittens, clearly dumped. Upon investigation, it was clear one of the kittens was in immediate need to medical care. Being a dog rescue, they called us right away.

A volunteer was able to quickly gather them all up and rush them to our vet. Our medical care team discovered that between the 7 kittens, there were 3 different litters of kittens ranging in age from 2 weeks old all the way to 8 weeks old, and just one mama cat. All of them were absolutely covered in fleas, anemic, very dehydrated, and severely underweight. Most of the older kittens also have upper respiratory infections. The worst off is a 4 week old kitten whose URI turned into an abscess in her eye which then ruptured and got infected.

Unfortunately she is too little to safely undergo surgery at this time so she is on pain meds and antibiotics until she can gain enough weight to safely have surgery, in which case she will be losing her eye.

This little family all clung together, clearly having gone through a traumatic time before getting rescued. We were able to place the entire family of 8 in one incredible foster home with a foster mama who will be administering meds around the clock.

Obviously, in an already busy season full of kittens and medical bills, this little family has already racked up the bill in addition to an upcoming $800 eye removal surgery in the near future.

If you would be able to donate monetarily towards our vet bills or purchase much needed kitten dry and wet food off our Amazon and Chewy wishlists to help us to continue saving families like this one, we would be so grateful. Donations can be made by visiting our website at www.yourlocalfurmama.com/donate or by clicking on the link in our bio.
