Before signing a stray hold contract like this, citizens should read it very carefully.
By signing, you would be agreeing to act as an agent for the shelter, house an unknown stray animal with no known vet care in your own home, provide its care put of pocket, and take on much of the everyday risk that comes with it. That can include bites, injuries, illness exposure, property damage, escape, and risks to your own pets or family, while the shelter still benefits from having the animal held outside its facility and listing you as a foster.
Helping animals is admirable, but no citizen should feel pressured into becoming a free kennel for the shelter without fully understanding the liability, the responsibilities, and exactly what rights they may be giving up.
Stray housing is not for everyone because its a public safety issue. Most shelters dont even allow public handling of strays in their shelter system due to the liability.
Fostering adoptable animals the shelter has had the time to evaluate is absolutely a safer option. While holding a stray absolutely helps the shelter, dont take on the liability that the shelter should be responsible for.
Read before you sign. Ask questions before you agree because the liability taken on with this form is a 🚩🚩🚩🚩. Protect your household while helping animals.
