We’d like to welcome Abby to the West Veterinary family! She’s been riding around with us over the summer, but she is officially part of the team now. You will likely see her on Tuesdays because of her school schedule and, if we are lucky, maybe a future associate vet with us one day 🤎

As many of you have heard, I am navigating an early breast cancer diagnosis and my surgery has been scheduled for the end of September. We will be closed September 29- October 1st provided everything goes smoothly. These dates are subject to change the closer we get, but I know that is in the middle of calving season, so I wanted to give an adequate heads up. Because I am the one who does 99% of the corresponding, there might be times when you don't hear back from us immediately, but we will try our hardest to provide the best care we can despite this setback. We will publish a list of names and numbers for other vets when the time comes, as they have all been more than gracious to offer help with our client list. In the meantime, we will continue scheduling appointments as normal and look forward to seeing everyone now that the weather isn't trying to cook us all alive🤎 --Katie

Our #1 call this week has been heat related emergencies. If you notice your livestock drooling, stumbling with their tongue out or rapid panting, this is likely the beginning of heat stroke. It’s imperative that you act quickly and begin hosing them down or, at the very least, put them in front of a fan. Everyone needs to make sure their animals have access to plenty of shade and fresh water during the next few days. All animal are susceptible to the heat—not just domesticated pets. You ever hosed down a fainting goat? It’s not a graceful process, but it’s sometimes necessary…and free entertainment 😆

Dr. West will be gone through Sunday evening for his Army Reserve training. We will resume appointments Monday morning.

Two reminders: we will be on vacation Sunday 7/26 through 8/1. We will leave the contact information to other vets on the voicemail, but I will also provide it here:

Dr. Liz Griffin (mixed practice except cattle) 931-419-9402

Dr. Martin Sander (cattle) 615-446-2343

Tennessee Equine Thompson Station (equine) 615- 591-1232

Todd County (all livestock) 270- 265-5556

And finally, a reminder to pay your invoices when they are received. We will not send out your coggins or health certificates without payment first. So, if you're going somewhere while we are gone and have not paid your bill, the samples won't be sent out until we come home in August.
