It spreads their pheromones over a wider area. They are confident in their space 🐾

Dogs that scratch and kick the ground after urinating or defecating are leaving a visual mark alongside the scent, a behavior researchers link to dominance and high confidence. The kicking spreads pheromones from glands between the paw pads over a wider area, amplifying the chemical message and essentially making the "I was here" signal louder.

Studies on dog behavior found this is more common in dominant, high-confidence dogs regardless of size. A tiny dog furiously kicking up grass is not being dramatic. It is being very sure of itself.

It’s that time of year again when we need to be extra cautious of not only our own animals but any strays we come across.

To Do:
-Move to a cool space
-Offer SMALL sips of water
-Use a wet towel on paws, belly, neck and armpits
-Use a fan to cool them down

*Go to a vet Heat Strokes can be deadly.

This is Zoe, and that distinctive ridge you see on her back is hair growing backwards!
Zoe is a breed called Ridgeback which is local to South Africa.

So excited to be working with new breeds everyday.
