It has been an incredible experience learning from other canine professionals, exchanging ideas, and continuing to grow as a trainer. I’m excited to bring this new knowledge and inspiration back to our dogs, clients, and community at Highland Canine Training Mooresville.

✈️ Next stop: Newport Beach, California! 🌴🐾

Flying to LAX and heading to the International Association of Canine Professionals (IACP) 2026 Conference.

I’m excited for a few days of learning, growing, exchanging ideas, and spending time with fellow canine professionals from around the world. There is always more to learn in this profession, and I’m looking forward to bringing new knowledge and ideas back home to better serve the dogs and families I work with.

Bogey is puppy 🐶 , but he’s already starting his journey toward becoming a Therapy Dog! 🐾💙

Training session at the hardware store was all about exposure, confidence, and good manners. Bogey explored the store, met new people, experienced loud and unfamiliar noises, and practiced a little polite leash walking along the way.

At this age, it’s not about being perfect—it’s about creating positive experiences and building a confident, well-rounded puppy. Great job, Bogey! 👏🐶

Oakley is learning the Place command and putting it to work in real-life situations! 🐾👏

After someone knocked at the door, Oakley went over and barked — but when Mom asked him to go to Place, he did a great job going to his bed and staying there calmly while the guest came inside. 🚪🐶

This is exactly why we practice obedience in real-life situations. Great job, Oakley! 💙

🐾 Building Focus on the Trail!

Training doesn’t stop when distractions show up—it’s where the real learning happens!

During this walk, we’re practicing changes of pace—fast, faster, slow—along with unexpected changes of direction. The goal is to encourage the dog to pay more attention to the handler instead of everything happening around them.

Every time the dog checks in and focuses on the handler, we mark and reward that choice. 👏🐶

These simple exercises help build engagement, better leash skills, and a dog that learns: “My handler is more important than the distractions around me.”

Train with purpose. Reward the focus. Build the connection. 🐾

🐾 Lili’s first day learning the “Place” command! 🐾

Lili’s first day learning the “Place” command, and she did an amazing job! She learned to go to her bed and stay there calmly while we opened the doors.

The “Place” command is one of the most valuable skills a dog can learn. It teaches patience, self-control, and helps prevent door rushing, making life at home safer and more enjoyable.

For a first lesson, Lili exceeded expectations, and we’re excited to keep building on this foundation in the coming sessions.
