We are excited to share that the Friends of CMAS Board has two open positions we are hoping to fill with community members who are passionate about our work supporting Charlotte-Mecklenburg Animal Care and Control. Please share this with anyone who you think would be a great fit!

Please note that this is a volunteer position that will require monthly virtual meetings in addition to any responsibilities that fall under the position in which you serve.

The Toomey location is now OPEN after renovations! 🎉 This satellite location houses dogs and cats that are available for foster or adoption!

Great news, Charlotte! Our Toomey location is officially reopening this Friday, August 28, for regular business hours. After weeks of repairs, we're thrilled to open the doors again and continue providing the best care possible for the pets who depend on us until they find their furever homes.
Starting Friday, you can once again stop by Toomey to take a pup out on a Daycation or Staycation; even a few hours or a night out of the shelter makes a huge difference for them. We can’t wait to welcome you back and see our dogs enjoying time outside with the community again!

This past Thursday, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Animal Care and Control rescued 20 dogs from an abandoned property - 15 adult dogs and 5 puppies. Most of the dogs are very underweight and some have sores.

There was a dire need to make space at the shelter to house them and the community stepped up! The dogs are now safe at the shelter and some have left for rescue!

They are available for foster or adoption and deserve homes filled with patience and love. Here are some of the faces of lives that were saved this past week.

Eleanor’s owners are looking for her and may not know she’s at the shelter! Please share so we can get the word out and reunite them! 📣

We are urgently trying to find Eleanor’s family. ❤️

Eleanor (A1268969) is a 15-year-old Yorkie who came into ACC with a serious medical condition (abdominal mass). Her health has been declining, and finding the people who know and love her is now especially urgent.

If Eleanor is your dog or if you recognize her, please come forward as soon as possible. We want to give her family the opportunity to be with her and make sure she receives the care and comfort she needs.

Eleanor is a sweet, gentle senior girl who still has so much love to give. 🥹 She is tolerant of handling, politely takes soft treats, appears to know “sit,” and was nonreactive to the dogs and cats she passed while outside. She even took care of her business as soon as she got out, so she may be potty-trained. And she absolutely loves a good b***y scratch. ❤️

Right now, Eleanor needs her people.

If her family cannot be located, she urgently needs a medical rescue able to provide the specialized care and comfort she needs.

🚨 Adopters, Fosters, and Staycations Needed! 🚨

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Animal Care and Control is FULL and euthanasia will happen today if dogs don't get out. How can you help?

1. Foster: apply to become a foster (short or long-term helps!) and literally save a life (https://charlottenc.seamlessdocs.com/f/EQ79Ro)
2. Staycation: if you're ready to add a pup to your family, grab one for a staycation (adoption trial) for up to 10 days or just give a dog a much needed temp break!
3. Share: the easiest way to help - you never know who may see it

While you're at it, please sign the petition (link here - https://www.change.org/p/stop-the-destruction-of-charlotte-s-animal-shelter-trails?signed=true) to save the walking trails at the shelter for dogs and volunteers! Without these trails, dogs have NOWHERE to fully relax away from the chaos and noise of the shelter. This would lead to more kennel stress and ultimately more euthanasia.
