Our sweet boy Franklin has been fighting a medical battle since leaving the shelter. He was admitted into emergency care with double pneumonia where he continued to struggle to breathe on his own. Franklin is now back at his foster home, however he’s still got a long road ahead.

With his bill being just under $4000, we would be so grateful if you considered donating to Franklins emergency care 🙏🏼

Rescue never stops, and the 7 Days of the Week litter is certainly a reminder of that!

What we know about these cuties:

🐾Their mom (now spayed staying with her owner) is a bloodhound, and we don’t know what breed their dad is! For lifelong planning, you can start with research of the adorably independent, stubborn, vocal and scent driven bloodhound 😉
🐾 They came to us underweight with a lot of parasites and a lingering URI. While they’re happy playful puppies, they’re still not all feeling their best and continuing much needed vet appointments.
🐾 They have a LOT of applications and our team of volunteers will be working through them post vet clearance this week! Thank you for your patience as we make sure they’re healthy and we have all necessary information for home placement!

Using these adorable faces to share a few reminders!

🐾 We keep pups for an intake of two weeks to ensure all medical issues have a chance to surface and be addressed as not all issues present themselves immediately from leaving the shelter.
🐾 We do adopt out of area under the right circumstances, including reference availability, timing feasibility, medical clearance, and it being the best fit for all involved.
🐾 3-3-3 rule, please read into this! While our fosters actively work to help pups decompress, crate training, potty train, etc. none of this is guaranteed and all dogs require their owners to set them up for success through all stages of their life.
🐾 We learn everything we can about the pup being adopted as it is our responsibility to place our dogs into homes where we feel is the best fit for them based on their estimated breed, temperament, and training needs.

Thank you for supporting rescue!

Transparency moment, because this week had reminders that a dog on “hold” does not always mean a dog is safe.

Earlier this week we offered to take 2 dogs same day, a delayed response, a dog on hold, and failed communication almost jeopardized those dogs’ safety net. Today, we pulled seven puppies from a shelter after they had been placed on hold by another rescue. Somewhere along the way, that rescue was no longer able to cover them.

But this is something that constantly weighs heavily on me, because these pups were lucky. The reality is that when a dog is placed on hold, everyone assumes they’re safe. Shelter staff move on to the next urgent dog. Other rescues and fosters may not step up because they believe the dog already has placement. Potential adopters can’t adopt them. And most importantly, that kennel space remains occupied while the dog waits.

Meanwhile, more dogs continue coming through the shelter doors with nowhere to go.

A hold should mean there is an actual plan to get that dog out AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. Not that we are going to figure it out eventually. Not that we hope to have funding later. Not that we will pick them up when it becomes convenient.

Because in overcrowded shelters, time and kennel space matter. Every kennel being held by a dog with no immediate plan is a kennel that cannot be used for another dog who may desperately need it. And when rescues back out after days or weeks, those dogs may have already lost the opportunity for someone else to save them.

I understand that things happen. Rescue is complicated. Emergencies come up. Funding changes. Foster homes fall through. But the dogs cannot be the ones left paying the price for poor planning or commitments that were never solid to begin with.

If you put your name on a dog, have a plan. If circumstances change, communicate immediately. And if you cannot follow through, release that dog as quickly as possible so someone else has the chance to step up.

The dogs need us to take our commitments seriously. Their lives, and the lives of the dogs waiting behind them, may depend on it.

Today we helped our sweet Bernie cross the rainbow bridge🌈

We noticed Bernie through CMACC where his foster at the time kindly let us meet him. We were excited to get approval for Bernie to join our Bark and Heal program, helping kids with the Alexander Youth Network gain confidence and self-esteem through connecting with and training BB foster dogs.

Bernie helped so many children through his time with the program while waiting for his forever family. What we didn’t know was his search was going to be cut short after an unexpected surgery led to an aggressive cancer diagnosis, quickly turning Bernie into a hospice foster.

After further concerns and an emergency surgery, it was decided that helping Bernie cross over on a good day was the kindest thing we could do for him. He celebrated with his kiddos, ate all the things, and was able to finish his time earth-side with his own family as his fosters accepted him with an adoption certificate.

Thank you, Bernie, for the endless reminder of how joyful life is, no matter how bad a day may be. Thank you, Kristin and Max, for fostering, caring for Bernie, and staying with him till the end.

Love you, Buddy 🤍
