The cone of shame is not your only option for recovery and often leads to added stress. This stress can cause diarrhea, loss of appetite, depression for your dog, and stress for you when you see your dog suffering. Avoid that stress and get our recovery Onesie instead.

🚨 Have you heard about the flesh-eating bugs?

They’re called New World screwworms, and unlike regular maggots that eat dead tissue, these larvae feed on living tissue and open wounds.

Cases have been confirmed in Texas and New Mexico, and experts are concerned they could spread to pets, livestock, and wildlife.

So this had me thinking, dogs usually get an E collar after being spayed or neutered. This means their fresh surgery wound is exposed and if screw worm flies are feeding on wounds then the wound should be covered to prevent exposure.

Will a recovery suit save your dog’s life? Maybe not. But covering a fresh surgical wound sounds like the best and safest option.

Think of this as your public service announcement. Shop link in bio.

Chickens - part 2 🐓

If you’re considering getting chickens, here are some common ailments.
🤢 Dirty Vents or vent gleet - caused my stress, poor quality feed, and dirty coops.
🥚 Broody hens - bad if there’s no rooster(or you don’t want chicks) because hens will starve themselves and sometimes over heat in an effort to hatch her eggs.
🪨 Impacted feet - caused by ground being consistently wet and can be serious if left untreated.

I’m learning a lot about chickens, but one thing all animals seem to have in common is the importance of proper diet and clean living conditions. Tune in next week as I continue my educational journey 📝

🐓 Chickens 101 | Vet Tech Tip Tuesday

Thinking about getting chickens? Let’s talk basics 👇

🥚 Yes, they give you fresh eggs
🪲 They snack on ticks + pests
🌱 And they fertilize your yard (you’re welcome, grass)

Here’s a few things you should consider:

✔️ Choose beginner-friendly breeds (Rhode Island Reds, Australorps, Orpingtons)
✔️ A secure, well-ventilated coop is EVERYTHING (raccoons are basically tiny burglars)
✔️ Food + clean water daily—non-negotiable
✔️ Egg production isn’t constant (don’t get emotionally attached to daily eggs 😅)
✔️ They NEED friends—no solo chickens
✔️ Cleanliness = prevention (mites, ammonia, respiratory issues)
✔️ They’re messy. Like… aggressively messy.
✔️ Heat is harder on them than cold—shade + airflow matter
✔️ Predators will test your setup… and your patience

Chickens are fun, useful, and full of personality—but they do require real care and planning.

✨ Follow along—next week we’re getting into common chicken health issues + what you can handle at home.

DMV friends—yes, we get city life and beautiful trails… but we’re also sharing it with a few uninvited guests 👀

Meet the 3 main characters lurking nearby:

🕴️ “The Intern” (Blacklegged/Deer tick)
Tiny… but doing THE MOST carrying Lyme, Anaplasmosis & Babesiosis.

⭐ “Main Character Energy” (Lone Star tick)
Bold, aggressive, and can cause Alpha-gal allergy (making you allergic to meat 🥩😭).
Also spreads Ehrlichiosis.

🧳 “The Commuter” (American Dog tick)
Chilling in tall grass from trails to backyards.
Bigger, easier to spot… carries Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever.

👉 Prevention is key—talk to your vet about what’s best for your pet.

Because if your pet isn’t protected…
they’ve got every right to be ticked off 😾

“Natural” doesn’t automatically mean safe 👀

If it doesn’t actually protect your pet, is it really the better option?

Medications like NexGard, Simparica, and Heartgard aren’t recommended randomly—they’re backed by research and guaranteed by the manufacturer for effectiveness.

Meanwhile, many “natural” remedies? No guarantees, and sometimes not completely safe 😾

Have you ever tried a “natural” remedy that didn’t work. Comment below👇
