Smokey may be our smallest horse, but he’s helping build something BIG.

For a young boy, climbing onto his back is about more than riding a pony. It’s about learning to trust, finding courage, and discovering, “I can do this!”

At Rising Hope Rescue Ranch, we’re not just teaching kids about horses. We’re helping them grow in confidence, build relationships, and discover how much they matter to God.

Sometimes big things begin with little steps—and a little pony named Smokey.

None of us really like pressure. Horses don’t either.

In the Porcupine Game, a horse learns that fighting against pressure often creates more pressure—but when he responds in the right direction, the pressure is released.

I wonder how often we do the same thing with God.

When life gets hard, we pull back. We resist. We assume God has forgotten us. But Jesus never promised us a life without burdens. He promised us somewhere to bring them.

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” — Matthew 11:28

Following Jesus doesn’t mean we’ll never feel pressure. It means we learn where to turn when the pressure comes.

Sometimes the most important work happens with your head down and your hands dirty.

Picking hooves may seem like a small job, but it teaches something bigger—patience, responsibility, confidence, and how to care for something besides yourself.

At Rising Hope Rescue Ranch, the horses are part of the lesson…but the kids are the reason we’re here.
