☀️ BEAT THE HEAT: Keeping Our Horses Safe This Summer 🐴👇
The temperature is soaring, and just like us, our horses are feeling the heat. Because they are so large, it takes them much longer to cool down, putting them at a high risk for heatstroke.
Here are 5 vital rules to keep your herd safe and comfortable during this heatwave:
1️⃣ Rethink Your Rides: If it’s over 95°F, skip the arena. It is not recommended to ride in this heat unless you are strictly inside a covered arena or well-sheltered in the shade.
2️⃣ Hydration & Electrolytes: Make sure they have 24/7 access to fresh, clean water. Pro-Tip: If you cannot see the bottom of your water trough, it needs to be dumped, scrubbed, and cleaned out! Supplement them daily with electrolytes when temperatures are high over 100!!! —either an oral paste or powder dissolved in their water.
3️⃣ Keep Salt Handy: Always make sure your horses have access to a white salt block to encourage them to keep drinking. DO NOT add salt to their feed.
4️⃣ The 100° Cool Down: When temperatures blast past 100°F, use the hose to wash your animals down, focusing right on their backs to help drop their core temperature.
5️⃣ ⚠️ CRITICAL OVERHEATING MYTH: If you think your horse is getting too hot or overheating, do NOT just leave a wet towel on their back. Wet towels quickly trap body heat against the skin and act like an insulator, making them hotter. Instead, continuously hose them down with cool water, scrape the warm water off, and repeat until they cool down.

Part dog. Part shark. 100% unstoppable. 🦈💦

Dog life jackets aren't just adorable, they're genuinely important for water safety, especially for breeds that aren't strong swimmers or dogs that are new to the water.

If your pup is hitting the pool, lake, or boat this summer, a properly fitted life vest is a must! 🙌

Stop in and we can help you find the right fit before summer gets into full swing.

June was practically made for afternoons like this one. Your dog doesn't need much to have the best day ever, and that's honestly one of the best things about them. 🐾

June tip for backyard flock keepers 🐔

Longer days mean more light, and more light means hens that are working harder. Hens laying consistently in summer heat have higher calcium and protein demands than most people realize.

Three things to check this month:
✅ Are your layers on a dedicated layer feed rather than scratch or mixed grain?
✅ Is oyster shell available free-choice so hens can self-regulate calcium?
✅ Are you checking water daily? Hens in heat can drink twice their normal intake.

A small adjustment now can make a big difference in egg quality and shell thickness heading into the hottest weeks of summer. 🥚

Beach days with your pup are everything. 🌊🐾

But before you hit the sand this June, here are a few things to keep in mind: rinse off saltwater after swimming, watch for overheating on hot sand, bring fresh water, and check if the beach is pet friendly first!

A little prep goes a long way for a safe and fun day out. ☀️
