Introducing Tootsie🥹🩷

Thank you to our partner, Kyla’s Helping Paws Inc. for welcoming this singleton kitten from a home we’re currently assisting through our TNR efforts in Gary.

This little one will be socialized like she needs and put up for adoption. If you’re interested in giving this kitten a home, please reach out to Kyla’s Helping Paws!

We also want to recognize the incredible volunteers who made this possible. Thank you to Lindsay and Stephanie for teaming up to starting the TNR work at the property while safely securing this kitten. And a special thank you to volunteer transporter Lorelei for donating her time to ensure this little one arrived safely at her next chapter.

This kitty, named Night by the amazing Lindsay Balash from Silverstray Social, has already had surgery and is on the path to healing his body and soul ❤️‍🩹We are were quoted a $700-850 estimate for this procedure alone, please consider donating towards his care ❤️

Thank you to our partner, Kyla’s Helping Paws Inc. for opening their doors to this injured cat from Gary.

After a community member reached out to us for help, we immediately got to work coordinating a plan. Thanks to our amazing Donations Coordinator, Lindsay, she was able to arrange pickup and transportation so this cat could quickly make it to safety and receive the care he needed.

While we aren’t always able to intercept animals before they enter Gary Animal Control, we do everything we can whenever resources and rescue placement allow. We were especially grateful that we could help this time, knowing this cat was injured and needed prompt medical attention.

2026 has been the worst kitten season we’ve seen yet.

We apologize for the lack of posting. We have been dealing with intake after intake, and a whole lot of loss💔

The loss that hurt the most was my little nugget, the single kitten we had been bottle feeding round the clock with hopes he would make it. Nugget was on very strong antibiotics, nutrient gel, kmr, and eye drops. We tried and our partners at Coyne fought with us. Nugget passed in his sleep one evening. I had just fed, burped, and stimulated him only 20 minutes before. I’m crying typing this because even though he was maybe 7-10 days old, he was with me day and night for the time we had him. Nugget, I will continue to do what we do in your honor and memory🤍

Shortly before nugget, there was Woody and then Annie. Woody was Mama Olive’s sickly runt that unfortunately did not survive past ~2 weeks. Annie was found alone and given to mama Olive to try and save her. We monitored her round the clock, but unfortunately by the time we had received her, she had already been without her mom for over 24 hours and she was too far gone for us to even bottle feed successfully.

An unexpected loss was fiesty little Bastian from our little mermaid litter of 3 (now with a new addition, Ursula). Bastian started to get very sick almost overnight and we rushed him to Coyne. He was nebulized, started on antibiotics, and getting extra nutrients and round the clock monitoring and care. Even though he was the biggest and looked to be the healthiest in his litter, our sweet Bastian passed away less than 48 hours after starting to show symptoms. We believe he suffered from fks💔

After nugget, we took in another pregnant mama (name still tbd) who had 6 very small kittens. 2 of those kittens unfortunately passed less than 48 hours after their birth. We then received a call from our friends at Big Dogs Don’t Cry Inc. to see if we could bottle feed 2 kittens a mama had delivered at crossroads but did not survive delivery. We said yes, but one passed that night and the other made it less than a day more. Then came 4 less than a week old grey tabby kittens. One was found outside of an old barn, 2 inside of a plastic bag within the barn, and the other in the barn as well. We lost the 2 from the bag within 24 hours, the smallest 3 days later. So far their remaining sibling, Wolfie, is thriving, gaining a nice plump belly, and starting to open his eyes and ears, all thanks to our surrogate mama🩷.

All this to say, we have been quite busy. These are the losses we have been facing, besides a personal pet loss in our family. These aren’t even all of the little ones we have taken in recently. These are the stories we share to let you know the reality of what happens when you don’t spay/neuter your pets. PLEASE always spay and neuter, keep your pets vaccinated, and treat them with all the love in the world. They might not be here for all our life, but we are there for all of theirs❤️‍🩹

*Help us find this incredibly sweet and loving young man a new furever home*
☕️Introducing Mocha☕️

Mocha is believed to be just under 1 year old. He is neutered and up to date on vaccines as well💕

From his former family: “Meet Mocha he is a lovable, sweet boy who we rescued in June of 2025, vet at the time estimated to be 5-6 weeks old, he is neutered, and very well behaved. Unfortunately we have to rehome our fur baby, for the past 10 months our family has been suffering with very bad allergies and we are all allergic to cats, we tried very hard taking prescribed medication but still it has been very hard for our son and started with breathing problems. We love Mocha and will miss him deeply but we have to make the hard decision to find him a loving home, where hope he can adapt and find the love and care that he deserves.”

Interested in scheduling a meet and greet with mocha? Send us a message today or text/call 219-384-5623!

🥰Kittens, Kittens, and more Kittens….😣

Pros🥰: WATCHING ADORABLE KITTENS GROW UP!!! Getting to watch the full circle from the moment these babies are born, until they get adopted into their furever homes🩷 Snuggling all the littles!! Watching supermamas love their own babies, as well as other babies, wholeheartedly and tenderly❤️ Being sent pictures and videos updating us on our babies after they find their family🥹 Watching the milk drunk bliss send kittens into a peaceful slumber, while their little nose and ears twitch☺️Adoption Days!!!!

Cons😣: We currently have 2 litters of 3, one bottle-baby, one severely malnourished young adult tabby male, and one tiny female with a skin condition, all are battling other medical issues on top of that... We’ve lost 5 kittens this season… I lost my childhood dog of 13+ years within 48 hours… We are drowning in medical bills and experiencing slow adoption levels in top of that…

To schedule a meet and greet with one or a pair (we recommend!) of our adoptables, message us or text/call 219-384-5623

Donations Needed: Medical Bill funds, KMR, Kitten wet and dry food, blankets and towels, Purina one whole systems cat dry food (for our adult KHP residents), Purina Tidy Cats w/ glade clumping litter, and puppy pads! We also accept Zelle, Apple Pay, Venmo, PayPal, and or cash donations❤️

💝Nugget Update💝

Sweet little nugget (the dusty orange kitten we posted about yesterday) is thriving so far! Mama Olive took him in immediately and he has been nursing and taking his meds like a champ!! He is estimated to be less than 2 weeks old, but is already sweet as can be and so innocent to the situation he had come from.

Unfortunately, Nugget’s sibling charcoal had to be helped along to cross the rainbow bridge. He was struggling to take his last breaths and euthanasia was the humane choice.

If you’d like to donate to nugget’s care, charcoal’s care and cremation, and or the care of all our current intakes as we fight through kitten season, everything helps! We have Venmo, Zelle, PayPal and Apple Pay.

We always need kitten wet and dry food, Purina one whole body systems dry cat food, puppy pads, blankets and toys, scented multi-pet clumping litter, and we are currently low on KMR and KMR 2nd step for our weaned and or formerly bottle fed babies🩷
