River had a sweet little outing at the park today and got to show off his wonderful manners! 🐾❤️ He received so many compliments, especially from the mom of a little girl who was so gentle and respectful when petting him. Seeing dogs learn to calmly and politely enjoy these everyday moments is what training is all about! 🥰

Koda’s progress has been so rewarding to watch! 🐾 Before Residency Training, she would lunge toward people while out and on walks because she wanted to be petted. In a relatively short time, she’s developed tremendous self-control, can remain calm around people, and is learning to respectfully give them space.
And the learning continues when she goes home, with private sessions for her owner—because lasting change happens when both dog and human learn how to succeed together. ❤️

🐾 Meet 11-week-old Shellie, my future trainee! She stopped by for a little visit and some informal training guidance while waiting to begin formal training. I offer this to all my future trainees because training starts the day your puppy comes home! At this age, we focus on establishing boundaries and routines, handling exercises, and safe, positive exposure to the world around them.

Formal training begins at 16 weeks at the earliest, when puppies are developmentally ready to build self-control, focus, and the ability to pay attention around distractions. Shellie also met our Maya, an excellent role model who greeted her with calm patience and appropriate manners. ❤️🐾

I strongly agree with AVSAB that early socialization should begin before puppies are fully vaccinated. It can be too early for formal training, but never too early to build the foundation — and it’s never too late to start training!
