Pumpkin season is here.

If you have a dog, like my Henry, then they probably think pumpkin season is year-round. 🎃

I gave Henry pumpkin for the first time when the vet suggested it for his digestion.

Turns out there is a right amount and a wrong amount. Too little and you are not getting the benefit. Too much and you have created a different problem entirely.

Henry sighs occasionally.

Especially when I stop petting him before he's ready for it to end.

He'll also sigh after a long hike.

I always assumed it just meant he was relaxed. Turns out there is actually more going on with a dog sigh. Once I looked into it, a few of his sighs started making a lot more sense.

Fall is one of Henry's favorite seasons. 🍂

The cooler temps, the crunchy leaves, the way he stops every three feet to sniff something I absolutely cannot identify.

He is in his element.

Can dogs actually burp? 🐾

Henry surprised me the first time I heard him let out a burp after dinner. I did not know whether to laugh or call the vet.

Turns out, dogs can absolutely burp, and what causes it tells you more about their digestion than you might think. Some of it is totally harmless. Some of it is worth paying attention to for your buddy.

A dog harness may seem like a small purchase, but it could save you from a much bigger problem. 🐾💙

A good harness can help:
🐶 give you more control on walks
🦮 reduce pressure on your dog's neck
🚶 make walks more comfortable
💸 potentially help prevent injuries and the expenses that can come with them

Why does your dog suddenly spin in circles trying to catch their own tail? 😂🐾

Sometimes it's just plain fun.

But tail chasing can also happen because a dog is:
🐶 bored and looking for something to do
🎉 excited or playful
👀 trying to get your attention
🧠 responding to stress or anxiety
🩹 dealing with an itch or irritation

Sometimes, they're just being wonderfully weird dogs. 😂

Henry may not care what kind of mulch is in the yard.

But as dog parents, we should care. 🐾🌿

Not all mulch is equally dog-friendly, and choosing the wrong kind can create an unnecessary problem (and potentially an expensive one).

Henry occasionally sleeps on his back. 😂🐾

Four paws in the air.

Belly exposed.

Completely passed out.

But why do dogs sleep like this?

It can actually tell us a few interesting things about how they're feeling. A dog who sleeps on their back may simply be:

💙 feeling safe and comfortable

😴 trying to cool down

🐶 relaxing deeply (like Henry after a massage)

🛏️ enjoying a particularly comfortable sleeping position

Of course, every dog is different.

Some dogs are just really committed to sleeping in ridiculous positions. 😂

We all hope we'll never need a dog emergency kit.

But if an emergency ever happens, you'll be glad you have one. 🐾💙

A few minutes of preparation today can save a lot of stress later.

Some essentials to keep on hand include:
✔ food and water
✔ medications
✔ vaccination records
✔ a leash and collar
✔ a favorite toy or blanket for comfort

Having these items ready can make an unexpected situation a little easier for both you and your dog.

Some people melt when their dog licks their face.

Others immediately reach for a towel. 😄

Sometimes it's their way of saying, "I'm happy you're here!"

Henry definitely thinks face kisses are a perfectly acceptable greeting.
