Our first sit today.

For being as jumpy as he was the first day here last week I’d say he’s doing exceptionally well. He’s taking to everything very nicely.

He really is enjoying the work.. or maybe just the alfalfa pellets beforehand… either way 😂

Both pics were taking during same timeframe, just different days. Both photos were taken while saddled and in the middle of a session during a break period after getting something ‘right’.

You can tell a lot about a horse from their lips.
Look at how much tension he has built up in the first photo vs the second.

Poncho’s demeanor has changed so much in just 5 days. He really is starting to enjoy working💗

Let’s give a warm welcome to our very first client at the new farm, Poncho!

Poncho is a 5-6 year old gelding with a relatively unknown past.
He show signs of previous training, but is also showing signs of pent up feelings. I can see in the way he holds his lips tight and is reluctant to flex both ways. We did work through both and I got some very good releases out of him.

We did a little work tonight w/t/c, moving hind + forequarters, and even with the saddle pad.
He does not like things being above him as his owner stated. That makes me wonder what may have happened prior to coming to MI.
He was spooky of the pad at first, but we ended on a great note of trotting around with it on, getting used to it kind of flinging around us, and seeing it laying on the ground.

Poncho is very smart and very kind. Just like his owner described. I think she’s right and he will be a fun horse with a little time and patience.

I’m very excited to continue work with this handsome fella!
