Herbs as Vegetable Companion Plants

If you are already growing vegetable plants you might as well include a few herbs. They can be beneficial companion plants for many reasons.
Pest deterrents, sweeter tomato and pepper crops, and it makes it easy for dinner ideas.
Here are some examples of perfect planting pairs-

Basil:
Known to improve the flavor of tomatoes and peppers.
Deters aphids, mosquitoes, and flies.
🍝 Adding basil to tomatoes makes for perfect pasta dishes.

Chives:
Plant near tomatoes.
Deters aphids and Japanese beetles.
🍅 Chives and tomatoes with your egg dishes? Yes, please!

Dill:
Plant near cucumbers.
Attracts ladybugs and beneficial wasps.
🥒 Dill refrigerator pickles are an easy way to use up a bumper crop of cukes.

Rosemary:
🫑 Plant near peppers.
Repels cabbage moths and bean beetles.
Think sausage, peppers, onions and roasted rosemary potatoes… yum!

Thyme:
Plant near strawberries.
Repels whiteflies and cabbage worms.
🍓 🍋 Add muddled strawberry and thyme to your lemonade.

Cilantro (Slow bolt variety):

💫 MONDAY MEMORIES from June 22

2023 - 🌅 Golden-hour Basset Hound.
Lulu was 11 years then and 14 years now. She loves to watch the sunset and far-off lightning.

2024 - 🐓 Amberlink chickens and green grass. I love the contrast of color. I love that they have wide open space to forage.

2025 - 💐 Last year’s flower season started earlier than this year with baby bouquets in the farm stand.
I’m looking forward to more beautiful blooms this year and can’t wait to put bouquets in the farm stand again.

These pictures are from yesterday’s golden hour that added a stunning glow to the evening. It was humid but I was enjoying the view, as I walked around planning, measuring, and identifying self-sown seedlings.
