A fun project from yesterday. This horse has a myriad of different pathologies so we decided to give these a try. The foot and angle look really good in this set up and we are excited to see how the horse feels. I used the Soundhorse universal cuff to attach these Soft rider arena shoes. These are a center loading shoe that allows for omnidirectional breakover and some roller motion mechanics that were enhanced with some grinding to increase the palmer angle. All for the good of the horse.

A notable case from this past week involved a horse that sustained an injury when it got loose. The horse was subsequently sent for an MRI, which revealed a severe lateral collateral ligament tear of the coffin joint, along with bone reabsorption and inflammation at the ligament's insertion points. The primary objectives of farrier intervention in such cases are to limit the degree to which the hoof sinks into a deformable substrate laterally and to stabilize the coffin joint. The application of a widened lateral branch of the shoe and a heel plate/bar shoe should accomplish these objectives. Despite the guarded prognosis for this horse, we are hopeful that this intervention will aid in the horse's recovery.

I haven't posted on this page in a long time but I am going to start posting here again. Here is just an example of a glue on with some almost unnoticeable roller motion mechanics combined with a wedge in a glue on shoe application. Mechanics don't have to be huge to make an impact. The only limits there are when it comes to a therapeutic package is your imagination and having the skill to apply and build them! Happy Days!

Very excited to announce I will be speaking again at the International Hoof-Care Summit. I will be lecturing on Simple Shoeing Solutions for Complex Therapeutic Problems and Finances and Business Management for the Farrier. These are two topics I am very passionate about so I am excited to be a part of this years program. Kansas City 2025 here we go. I hope to see my friends there!

April has been a busy month, and it isn't over yet. I haven't posted any of my work lately, but here is a case on a nice A level hunter. The horse was diagnosed with a medial sesamoidian ligament strain and an inflamed tendon sheath. The vet and I felt that these injuries were due to instability in the fetlock. I went with an eggbar to stabilize the limb and the extra wide bar was used to allow the toe of the foot to sink into deformable substrate-- aka arena footing. The pour pad was used to share load to the frog and bars to ease pressure on the heels as the horse also has some lower than ideal angles and weak heel structures. This is just something we don't see every day. I just want to send a shout out to all the farriers who have expanded my knowledge and enabled me to become more multidimensional. There was a time when welding aluminum wasn't a tool I had, but with this skillset the sky is the limit when fabricating therapeutic devices for the equine digit.
