So very true 🐾🐾🐾
One organization pushing hard to make legislative changes to help protect the cats in our community is F.A.C.T.
A quote from F.A.C.T., “There are so many more cats than dogs, yet dogs have resources that cats do not (i.e. animal control, licensing). It never made sense to me. If a dog gets picked up, there are more options/resources. Cats are basically ignored by most ACO’s because it isn’t on their list of job duties and, surprise, that is the animal that is suffering the most due to the overpopulation problem. How lawmakers and county officials haven’t connected the dots by now baffles me.”
“There is no one to call. Rescues are operating on a shoe-string budget with no facility and usually fewer than 10 foster homes. With no shelter in Washington County and every rescue full, what happens to the stray cats? What happens when there is a cruelty case with several cats? They don’t get the help they need. When cats are outside for an extended period of time and unfixed because rescues cannot keep up with the need, more kittens end up being born and the cycle keeps going. Then those kittens get sick, some die. Disease spreads. The females have another litter of kittens who get sick and may die. Tragedy after tragedy because no one can keep up with the need and there is no one to call/nowhere to bring them so they get help in a timely manner.
People tend to do nothing when they see cats now, or they simply post online and hope someone else will step up, because they know everywhere they call will tell them they’re full, so the situation gets worse and worse.”
Let’s get involved, talk to your lawmakers to change the way cats are treated in society.

Poor Simba was abandoned in an apartment, no medical intervention could save him 😢
There were no charges for the guilty owner responsible for that abandonment. F.A.C.T. is pursuing legislation to make a law to punish people who abandon cats.
