Had a bit of a rude awakening this morning when I stepped out onto the porch and found random turds out there 😩😒.

Not sure what decided to unload up here, but I don’t think it was our cats. There was a strong smell of skunk this morning, but I’ve never actually seen one near the house before. I have seen possums on the top porch and raccoons on the bottom porch before though, so my guess is it belongs to one of those critters.

What say y’all? Who is our phantom sh*tter? 👻 💩

🚨 FARM SECURITY BREACH 🚨

Caught this suspicious individual trespassing on the property today. 🐢

Doing dishes and just happened to glance out the window only to see something scurrying across the driveway—turns out it was this awesome box turtle! I brought the kids out to see if they could spot the turtle hiding in the grass, and it took ‘em a minute to be honest 😅. Mack is great at nature seek & find though and eventually spotted the turtle.

One of the best parts of farm life is getting to share the land with wildlife like this, and raise my kids up to appreciate it as much as I do ☺️.

Nature always finds a way to surprise you.

Just a little throwback to when this clan of lambs was beboppin’ around. 🐑✨

I thought this was the sweetest, most disgusting gift Luca left in Mack’s croc 🥹🤢.

Mack is Luca’s favorite because Mack likes to make cat toys out of baling twine and wool, and he will play with them for hours just dragging his little creations behind him for them to chase after. I guess Luca wanted to show his appreciation for Mack’s gifts by leaving him one of his own in return.

It’s the little things like this, even though it’s horrifying and disgusting, that make me really appreciate raising kids and animals together and watching their special bond grow over time.

Mack made that little cat toy area on our porch for them too. It just looks like a mess of stuff, but the cats love it. One of them is laying on or scratching that cardboard, or playing with the baling twine toy at any given time. I love his little heart and creative mind 💙.

The pallet coop is finally done and moved into position. 🙌🏼 Now to build the run 😩.

The plan is to have the chicks in the run until they’re old enough to free range, at which point we’ll move them back down near the house to manage all bugs over here. When we had chickens and ducks free ranging at our property in NC, we noticed a significant decrease in the amount of spiders and other creepy crawlers around the house, so I’m really hoping they do the same for us here 🙏🏼.

We also plan to get some guinea fowl, and eventually (hopefully) some Indian runner ducks, but we’re not quite there yet 😅.

Mose back at it with the death nap. ☠️💤

Caught him deep in the middle of REM sleep before we cleaned trays this morning. I wonder what he was dreaming about? 🤔 Maybe he was reliving his glory days of when he won Best Junior Buck and Best Opposite of Breed at the show.🏅
He’s quite a handsome buck and such a sweet boy! We absolutely adore him, and we’re really hoping his kits end up with his temperament and conformation 🧬🤞🏼🙏🏼.

Today’s farm priority: sheep pedicures. 🐑💅

The service was free and unappreciated. The lambs rated the experience 0 out of 5 stars, would not recommend.

Unfortunately for them, this will most likely not be their last time. Hooves need to be trimmed in order to keep the sheep’s natural gait, prevent bacterial infections, and to prevent lameness, but how often really all depends on breed, genetics, environment, and diet. Some folks never trim, and others trim every 8 weeks. We’ve noticed that our wool sheep (Shetlands and Babydoll Southdown) require more frequent hoof trimming than our hair sheep (Barbados Blackbelly), but because our ground is soft (think red clay), they all require trimmings at least 2-3 times a year.

Found this girl with a very swollen eye while doing evening chores. Not sure what got her, we’re thinking maybe it’s a bee sting, but we’ll be monitoring it to make sure it’s not anything more significant.
