Well… this was NOT on today’s farm agenda 🐢😂

Went out to check on things and found this guy casually strolling through the field like he pays rent here. No appointment, no heads-up, just vibes.

Pretty sure he sized up my boots and decided he runs this place now.

Any name suggestions for our newest “employee” — job duties include:

🤎 A Blessed Arrival at His Olde Oak Farm 🤎

We’re grateful to share the arrival of our third and final calf of the season—our only bull, a beautiful dun we’ve named Abraham.

In true farm fashion, Lily chose a cold, rainy day to bring him into the world, reminding us once again that these moments are never on our schedule—but always in God’s timing.

Abraham is still learning his way and working to nurse, so we brought him into the barn for a time of warmth and supplemental colostrum to give him a strong start.

He’s a healthy, handsome boy, and his little sister Sarah is already quite taken with him.

We’re thankful for new life, for the lessons it brings, and for the continued blessings over this farm. Welcome, Abraham.

Feeling super blessed today!! I was certain that I would peek in my hives an see nothing but dead bees. I mean we have had insane low temps for VA since the middle of January. We’re not talking about day or two of 20’s. This was weeks of freezing weather with many nights in the single digits. (This old gal is accustomed to that having lived in Jackson Hole for 20 years but in Virginia… not expected.)

Well, with it finally being well above 45 the past two days I decided to go see how much damage there was. This first year beekeeper knew she was likely going to find a pile of dead girls and empty hives. At a minimum the smaller hive would be gone.

However, my God is so good!! I opened the big hive and saw the girls getting their fill of the sugar brick. Wow!! On to the smaller hive, and YES! Even more activity on their sugar brick. Both hives still have plenty of food which leads me to believe their honey stores were awesome going into this winter.

I am feeling so so blessed! I’ll continue to monitor their food reserves as the weather permits and I’m actually feeling optimistic about my 2026 season!!

We are so excited to announce our first His Olde Oak Farm baby!! Our miniature Hereford “Tuno” surprised us yesterday morning with a gorgeous little female out of our Dexter bull “Shooes”. Temps are not exactly mild and we weren’t expecting her for at least a few more weeks but despite our naivety, the Lord brought her here without fanfare. She’s now up and running around with mom and staying warm in the straw.

Our little “Ester” is surely here for such a time as this and we are so incredibly blessed to have our Father’s protection over her. All glory to Him!
