We had a dog adopted from us by a family in San Benito. The dog unfortunately got away from them so they let us know and we posted and started looking for her as did the adopter. Searching lost and found pages and shelters trying to find this girl. She was spayed microchipped and current on all vaccines so we felt sure that she would turn up. Well she turned up last week in Florida. So we immediately started working on getting her back home while trying to figure out how she got there in the first place. Thankfully whomever had her in Florida she got away from and found her way to a Good Samaritan who took her in and checked for the chip so we got a call. Not only did this Good Samaritan keep her safe for a week till she could be transported back but would take no compensation for her good deed. Rachel Lucas we can’t tell you thank you enough for all you did for this girl and driving her an hour to meet transport and providing all she needed to get home. Kelly Byrd and Byrdie Express transport thank you for getting this girl to us safe and sound and for all you do for all the furry babies you come in contact with.
Now the flip side this girl didn’t walk to Florida in the short time she was missing. Someone took her there. They either didn’t check for a chip or checked and just didn’t give a damn. That seems to be the theme these days. Find a dog and send it on transport without checking for a chip or looking for an owner. And it is the dogs themselves that suffer. This girl didn’t deserve that. To be taken all across the country when her family was here searching diligently for her. They did everything right and when we found out where she was they stepped up and paid to bring her home. We may never know how this happened. Maybe it is better if I never know but I just have to put this out there. Not every stray is homeless. Things happen and sometimes dogs get out. We tell people to microchip because it is the best way to get your dog back. And I am grateful someone finally did right by this girl. This never should have happened. So the next time you find a dog on the street check for a chip. Follow up looking for an owner. Wouldn’t you want the same if it was your dog? There are plenty of dogs that truly need help that no one should need to take one with an owner. Rant over. Here are some pics of the sweet girl on the way from Florida and with her happy family when they picked her up in Houston today.
