September is Su***de Prevention Month, a time to raise awareness, encourage conversations about mental health, and remind each other that support is available. 💚

Taking care of the caregivers means taking care of the people behind veterinary medicine.

Veterinary medicine can be incredibly rewarding, but it can also come with grief, difficult decisions, compassion fatigue, and emotional stress. That’s why access to support matters. Our Veterinary Social Work Services are here to support both pet caregivers and our veterinary team through some of the most challenging moments.

For clients, support may include navigating quality of life concerns, difficult medical decisions, chronic illness, end of life care, grief, and pet loss.
For our staff, Veterinary Social Work provides a space to process difficult experiences, navigate grief and compassion fatigue, and connect with additional resources when needed.
These services are an important part of caring for our community. Supporting the people behind the care is part of providing compassionate veterinary medicine.

On September 11, 2001, countless heroes rushed toward the danger to help those in need. Among them were more than 300 courageous search and rescue dogs who worked alongside first responders at Ground Zero and the surrounding sites.

These remarkable dogs searched tirelessly through the rubble, helping locate survivors and those who lost their lives. They worked in unimaginable conditions, guided by their handlers and driven by an incredible instinct to help.

Today, we remember the human lives lost and honor the first responders, volunteers, handlers, and four-legged heroes who served our city during one of its darkest days.

As New Yorkers, we will always remember their courage, loyalty, and service. 🗽
