Shibui ni Animal Rescue and Sanctuary This is the page for Shibui ni Animal Rescue and Sanctuary. I had a passion for dogs from the womb. My sanctuary is Shibui ni, and my name is Tere.

In today's world, as more and more people see dogs as "throw-away," there is an unlimited need for rescue and safe homes. When people do not spay or neuter their pets, there is an exponential growth in the number of strays, being malnourished, hit by cars, attacked by other animals, diseased, etc. Providing a lifetime safe space for those strayed and feral animals on their last legs is what I do.

Lakshmi had a good night. I'm not deluding myself anymore - she hasn't eaten in 48 hours - but she still wants to be involved. I couldn't believe she walked with her pack today, but she wasn't going to miss it. If this is the last thing she does, on a crisp, sunny day, then I'll let it be her last thing.

She is snug and comfortable.

I have a dog grave site behind the barn, hidden within tall brush. No one goes back there. I don't, because I don't want the dogs to check out where I have been.

I had to euthanize Osiris last year. He was 17, had lost vision and hearing and his back legs. On the day Dr. Halsey was to come, I couldn't find him. He never went into the pasture anymore, but I couldn't find him anywhere. By the time Dr. Halsey got here, I was panicking. On a whim, I went to the grave site. Osiris was down in the hole where he was intended to spend eternity. I was beyond shocked.

Last night, Lakshmi had the worst night imaginable. Kidney failure is very ugly. I don't know if she will make it through the day, and I may take her to the emergency vet in Tennessee for euthanization. But she wanted to go out back this morning with her pack, and so I let her, not knowing if I would see her alive again.

The hay man texted that he was coming, so I had to get the dogs into the yard. Lakshmi Lucy was not with her pack. They came in, and I went out hunting. When the guys got here, I told them to look out for her in her pink coat. On a whim, I decided to check the grave site.

Dogs are the most amazing creatures on earth. Lakshmi was beside the hole, just waiting.

I am crushed, but she is ready.
