🐕 Kenzo’s Training Journey: Distance, Duration, and Distraction! 🐾

Look how calm and focused Kenzo is! ❤️ As part of his training, Kenzo is practicing the Three Ds of Dog Training: Distance, Duration, and Distraction.

📏 Distance: Learning to maintain a behavior even when the trainer moves farther away.

⏱️ Duration: Learning to hold a behavior or stay in position for a longer period of time.

🎯 Distraction: Learning to remain calm, focused, and responsive even when there are distractions in the environment.

These three skills help build Kenzo’s patience, focus, self-control, and reliability. Through consistent practice and positive reinforcement, he is learning to follow instructions and maintain good behavior even as the challenges increase.

Way to go, Kenzo! Keep up the great work! 🐶👏

Counter-surfing isn't sneaky. It's rewarding.

Every time your dog finds a crust on the counter, the behavior gets paid - which is why yelling after the fact does nothing. The fix has two parts: management (clear counters, no unsupervised kitchen time) so he stops hitting jackpots, and a clear alternative - place or down on a mat while you cook, rewarded on the floor, never from the counter. Take away the payoff, give him a job, and the habit fades out.

How We Turned a Startled Moment Into a Confidence Win 🐾?

What do you do when your dog gets spooked during training? 🤷‍♂️🐕

In this clip with Apollo, you’ll see:

1️⃣ The moment something caught him off guard 😳

2️⃣ How we stayed calm and kept expectations clear without adding pressure 🧘

3️⃣ The incredible boost in his confidence once he realized he was totally fine! 🎉

When we advocate for our dogs and guide them through uncomfortable moments, their confidence skyrockets. Apollo showed up, worked through it, and finished stronger than ever! 🌟

The goal was never a dog who listens because he's wearing something.

Fading the tools is a process, not a day. We drop the frequency of reinforcement before we drop the tool, we test in low-distraction environments first, and we go back a step the moment reliability slips. A dog who responds to your voice at 30 feet with another dog walking by has been proofed there deliberately - dozens of reps, one variable at a time. If your dog only listens with the leash on, the training isn't finished yet. That's fixable.

We need your help.
Big Al, one of our K9s in training, needed TPLO surgery. After the first surgery, the nightmare began. His knee came out of alignment, so we had to do another surgery. Again, his knee has come out of alignment, and we are facing a 3rd surgery to fix it or an amputation. We do not want to amputate his leg; we've already spent over $20k on surgeries, and insurance is refusing to cover any of it. I'm asking for your help and support in donating toward his vet expenses.

If you cannot donate, please share this post with your friends and followers so that we can give Big Al the best chance of a normal life as possible.

Thank you so much!

What started as a necessary TPLO surgery to repair his knee has turned into a nightmare we never… Chris Pelle needs your support for Help Save K9 Big Al’s Leg

If you only teach your dog one command this month, make it 'place'.

Place is a job with a clear start and a clear end: go to the bed, stay there until released. It works because it replaces a behavior you don't want (crowding the door, hovering at the table) with one your dog can actually succeed at. Start with the bed two feet away, lead him on, mark the moment his feet land, release after three seconds, build from there. Duration before distance, distance before distraction - never all three at once.
