I know how expensive veterinary care has gotten. I see it every day, and I know how hard it can be for people who genuinely want to take good care of their pets.

I’m going to start sharing some local low cost resources.

There’s no shame in needing affordable options. Sometimes people just need to know where to look.

These resources don’t replace the importance of having an established relationship with your veterinarian, but they can make some essential aspects of pet care more accessible.

A little update from Mother Moon Pet Services:

For the next several months, I’ll be taking on some additional clients while my friend and fellow local pet care provider, Andie from Andie’s Animal Care, LLC, steps away for maternity leave. She has been referring some of her clients to me so I can help keep their pets’ care consistent while she’s away, and I’m grateful for the trust she has placed in me.
Andie has a much larger, full-time business than I do, so this will bring a little influx of new faces my way! I currently provide in-home services two days a week alongside my work at a veterinary clinic, so availability may be somewhat limited and I may have a little more wait time for appointments. Same day rebooking is the best chance to get scheduled appropriately.
I’m doing my best to accommodate as many of these referrals as I can while continuing to give every pet the time and attention they deserve.
If you’re one of Andie’s clients who has recently reached out to me, thank you for trusting me with your pets. I know many of you will be returning to Andie when she comes back, and I’m happy to be able to help bridge the gap in the meantime.

I thank Andie so much for trusting me with her clients. I’m happy to help while she is away, and I’m really excited for her and her growing family! ❤️

Thank you to everyone who supported my May fundraiser. Because of your bookings throughout the month, I was able to donate $150.00 to Animal Orphanage (Old Town, Maine)!

As a small business, I may not always be able to make huge donations, but I'm grateful for every opportunity to give back to the animals and organizations that mean so much to me. Every appointment booked helps make contributions like this possible.

I spent part of today volunteering at a local adoption event, helping at an educational table and getting to spend the day surrounded by people who care about animals and their community. One of my favorite parts of working in this field is seeing how many people come together for the wellbeing of animals. Rescues, volunteers, veterinary staff, fosters, adopters, and everyone in between. It takes a village, and today was a really good reminder of that!

I had a second massage visit today with a mini schnauzer who’s been dealing with some lameness, and who also has some strong opinions about being handled by strangers. Last week, he spent some of our session letting me know exactly how he felt about it through several growls and warnings. Halfway through, he let out a big breath and softened into it.
But today he was a different dog!
His owner reported no signs of lameness this week and he was able to stop his anti-inflammatory meds! During today's session, he only growled once, settled much more easily, and even rolled onto his side, in a relaxed and trusting way. Seeing that kind of shift and improvement is so inspiring and feels really validating.

The rest of the day brought me to a number of other home visits, with some new faces and some familiar ones. In between, I stopped at a slate quarry, where I sat in the sun for a while, and watched six broad-winged hawks circle overhead while a beaver moved quietly through the water. I pulled over at another area later to photograph a couple of geese.

Every day that I do this work feels so special and fulfilling
