🚨🐐 GOAT OWNERS — THIS IS YOUR PSA! 🐐🚨
RABIES ISN’T JUST A DOG & CAT PROBLEM.
Recent positive rabies cases in the Carolinas — including exposure involving NINE goats — are a serious reminder that our livestock can be at risk, too. 🦠
Goats can be exposed to rabies through wildlife such as skunks, raccoons, foxes, and bats. And unfortunately, once an animal develops clinical signs of rabies, the disease is almost always fatal.
💉 WHAT CAN YOU DO?
Rabies vaccination is something goat owners should talk to their veterinarian about, especially if their goats:
🐐 Have frequent contact with people
🐐 Are handled regularly or used for educational/public events
🐐 Are particularly valuable
🐐 Live in an area with frequent wildlife activity
⚠️ Don’t wait until there is a suspected exposure to start thinking about rabies prevention.
Your goats are part of your family, your farm, or your livelihood. Protecting them also helps protect the people who care for them. ❤️
